Voters in one North Carolina town rejected a plan to generate solar energy out of fear that solar panels might “suck up all the energy from the sun". A retired science teacher said that she was concerned that the solar panels would cause nearby plants to die, and also expressed her personal belief that solar panels were causing cancer among the community.

There just isn't enough facepalm to cover this one.

Link to Story

After the vote, they presumably went outside to wave goodnight to the Sun as it went asleep behind the mountains, before sacrificing a child to the corn gods in hopes of a good harvest.

"Science teacher" ??? What the heck has this town been paying for in its schools?

It's too sad.

Quote:
Despite the assurances of company representatives, the town not only voted against the solar farm, but later approved a moratorium on any future proposals.

It says something grim that they can at least agree on perpetuating the stupid.

But they didn't recognize the most impotent thing: That by sucking up the suns' energy they're actually preventing global warming. :D

Oh my. That is awesome. I mean, I just can't find words to describe the incredible sense of astonishment I'm feeling in reaction to reading the story. Solar panels will suck up all the sun's energy and nearby plants will die.

Considering the state legislature threw the gates wide open to fracking a just a few months ago, I'd say oil drilling reps made the rounds & ensured the fine citizens of dumbf*ckistan were well informed about the dangers of solar power.

Well, nearby plants would die if they were shaded by the panels so they didn't get enough sunlight.

They should be well familiar with at least one environment where the sun don't shine, as apparently it surrounds their heads.

A pair of pruning shears can come in handy if someone tries that.

The science teacher was merely supporting her husband. Who can blame her ? She did what any dutiful wife would do -- leave her brain at the door and back him up when he claims that the solar panels would absorb all the excess sunlight and cause large scale damage to local businesses.

In an age when Feminazis are trying to outdo their men, it's nice to see a wife who respects her husband's word as the Gospel truth. Go, Jane Mann.

I hope that you were being sarcastic. Women should stand up for the truth, even when it conflicts with their husbands' opinions.

I blame her.
