You might want to have a read of this article, it is a book review.

While the review may not say much about CBT, it may say something about the psychologists. I hold the view that CBT is likely to be one of the better "talking" treatments.

Maybe some books might be best enjoyed by reading the review, in the same way as I think the radio times reviews of some dire films are likely to be much more fun than watching the films. For the film reviews go and see

Nice article, thanks.

Psychotherapy can make people aware of abnormal behaviors (that they believe are normal). For some people, only going to a 'professional' works to alert them to their behavior. In other words, they don't believe it from someone in their life, like family or friends. Psychotherapy has its place.

I have a master's in psych and I was always taught that CBT is the only therapy with evidence to back up that it works. For this author to question it's validity seems novel to me. It is interesting.

For one thing, I see an AS and anxiety specialist. I have both. Techniques with medication are more efffective than either alone for anxiety. Still, I can't "talk or reason" my way out of my baseline anxiety from being over-stimulated all the time.

That's why my psychiatrist just put me on Inderal with my Klonopin, to help me stay calmer during the day.

Wow, you guys know CBT means something x-rated too, right?
Sorry, but it's funny reading your posts thinking of the definition I usually think of!

I hate to admit it, but I know about that "other" definition of CBT too!

Somehow, as open minded as I am, I think I'm glad I don't... :?

OK, after doing a bit of research, I'm definitely not interested in either form of CBT

When I first heard of CBT, I thought "Compulsory Basic Training" which is something you must take if you want to ride a motorbike in the UK, I then heard of the "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" but the sexual activity which I have just discovered exists is just gross and nasty.
