You had a subscription to crack cocaine?

Same was said about Everquest, the previous generation of MMO's #1.

A fundamental part of MMO's is they are a large time sink. Some people take this time sink all in 1 sitting, aka no moderation.

The same will be said about what ever follows WOW.

Add to that the classic question. Where were this kids parents? 24h strait on WOW? Come on. It's not WOW's fault, its parents who use WOW to raise their child.

I bet Warhammer is the new crack. But they will have to call it Crackhammer because Warcrack is already spoken for! :) And Evercrack (Everquest).

I have cancelled my WoW subscription more times than I can count, but it definitely always lures me back in. In fact, last Friday I started back on it. I do enjoy it, I just get so caught up in it, before I know it, it's 1:00am and I have to work the next morning.

Good for Blizzard! If their videogame is so great that people literally can't tear themselves away from it, it means that they have done their jobs well. Since there is no physiological reason that someone could become "addicted" to a videogame, the only reason that someone would be unable to stop playing would be that it is a great game. If only more games were of such high quality that they garner comparisons to illegal pharmaceuticals, and for a fraction of the price!

There may be no physiological effect from playing video games, but psychological condition is still a potential problem. Addiction does not require the ingestion of a chemical to exist.

But is that Blizzard's problem? I'd hate to see video game makers holding their programmers back because they were afraid to make a product that was "too good", since some people might have a problem controlling themselves. Excellence should not be punished and is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, that people can't stop playing is the ultimate compliment to the people that made the game.

Blizzard can't be blamed. Just like cake companies causing heart attacks.

WoW also has a (slightly) better music following.

Can't link it now as no copy/paste on iPhone but there's a rather more reputable report out there on a study showing that wow was in no way addictive, people who played it excessively generally needed more support from parents/family not that they were actually addicted to the game.

And anyways comparing it to crack is somewhat silly because nearly all people who play the game suffer some burnout eventually and generally apathy towards the game. From personal experience it just gets boring sometimes, you don't get bored of an addiction do you?

This is Blizzard we're talking about. They've made several addicting and deep games before Wow like "Diablo", "Starcraft", "The Lost Vikings" and the original "Warcraft".
