The court ordered assistance to ensure he gets a fair trial. I do not see how that is an Asperger defense. Looks more like an accommodation to me.

a pro active defense of mental disease or defect is not what this is. A person can only stand trial if they are able to understand and assist in their own defense. Since most people don't know all of the legal intractices, they are assisted by a lawyer. You can legally represent yourself. In this case, with certain accomadtions, the defendant can stand trial,.
