A Chinese businesswoman who has blown 6.8 million US dollars in the gaming haven of Macau in two years, scooped a slot machine jackpot just as she was threatening to sue the casino, a report said Thursday.

The woman won a five million Hong Kong dollar (640,000 US) slot machine payout on Monday at the Wynn Macau, part of the gaming empire of US tycoon Steve Wynn, the Standard newspaper reported.

It was the second-highest slot machine payout in Macau's history, the report said.

Her win came a day after she threatened to sue Wynn Macau over the huge sum she has lost on slot machines since 2007. She claims that payout rates on the machines are too low, the English language daily said.

The woman, from the eastern Zheijiang province, was also unhappy because Wynn staff refused to let her, family and friends play 20 machines at the same time in a calculated attempt to beat the odds.

The report said the woman, who it described as a self-proclaimed billionaire, had insisted she was not addicted to gambling.

Despite the payout, the woman has threatened to continue her legal battle, the Standard added.

Macau has become a gambling paradise in recent years, with massive casinos springing up across the former Portuguese colony, helping the city overtake Las Vegas in terms of gaming revenue

But income has been battered as visa restrictions placed by Beijing on Chinese visitors have stopped many of the biggest gamblers entering the territory, the only place in China where casino gambling is allowed.

A spokeswoman from Wynn Macau confirmed that a woman had won a substantial sum on the slot machines earlier this week, two days after a weekend dispute with one of the casino directors about how to use the slot machines.

The spokeswoman would not confirm if the woman had previously made large gambling losses and insisted it used state-of-the-art machines which were constantly maintained.

I have visited a casino once, I played roulette for low stakes. (about 20 US cents) for 30 minutes and I found it was rather boring. I will not be doing it again.

What is the differences between: "yes, sometimes" and "I have tried it"?

I USED to play Reno slots. It's no longer fun now, the casinos were losing tons of cash because all the Californians were playing at the legal Native American owned casinos in CA, so the Reno casinos went on an upgrade spree and paid for it by tightening the slots till they screamed. They also took away the coins, you have to play a minimum of $1 at a single machine and the machine spits out tickets that you give to the cashier. Nobody wins more than a few bucks anymore there, and the casinos are filthy and surrounded by homeless panhandlers who are extremely aggressive, and the food makes people sick.

Casino gambling has become so common in the US that when the depression hit in 2008 people said "well, going to Vegas is fun but we don't NEED to do it, so we'll cut it". That left the casinos trying to steal addicts away from each other. You go on the floor now, all you see are the filthy addicts who have been at the same machine for two days straight. California casinos heavily recruit Asian American gamblers, who tend to get addicted to it easily, and add in the fact that many are elderly and don't speak English or understand our culture, and you have an entire industry that relies on lonely people and people with addictions gambling away their welfare checks. It sucks.

It's no surprise to me what with all the cash that was sloshing around China that people lost millions of dollars each. I think it was hilarious how the woman wanted to play 20 machines at once, I've seen one person playing three or four machines at once. She obviously has a BIG problem.

Obviously, the machines knew she was going to sue and saved the casino the extra money

This could very well have been an inside job by the casino to placate her. I know that digital slot machines are programmable, and possibly networked to a central server as well. In SC Video slots were made illegal about 10 years ago because they the state of SC had problems with people addicted to gambling, during the investigation, it was found that many of the slot machine owners programmed the odds of the machines to almost never pay out, thereby increasing their profit margins.

Also, I have tried gambling before, and realised that the probability odds of actually winning anything substantial are exceedingly low. I have lost more times than I have actually won, so that basically tempered my interest in gambling.

I also realise from observing gamblers, is that even if they win a good amount, they will still lose more than they win, and any cash that they win will most likely be lost again. --I would assume that the lady in question is probably gambing away her winnings, wo the point of her actually winning anything is probably moot.

To the above, i'd say yes. <.< You do gamble if you invest in low term with high (or low? ok i don't know here ><) interest rate, because it can quickly change from one day to the next. Hence a higher risk. ;o (Sorry if that's not completely accurate, economy has never been my forte, especially at 5am without sleep).

I met a British born Chinese guy a few years ago who lived off his gambling winnings, but he didn't play slot machines or roulette or other such games of chance, he played cards, I think he was one of those people who could count cards or something.

But the regular person is more likely to lose than win.

I don't think i'd class this as gambling, it might not be a steady flow of income, but over an extended period of time, he will always make money. As long as he stores some cash he makes as a reserve (something everyone should do) then he'll never experience money problems. I've thought about making money from poker before, but i've been too lazy to do the maths behind it.
