I am a bit afraid of driving, it just feels so out of my control when it goes. I can play video games and stuff (though dislike raceing) but the cat just seems scary and so uncontrolable in comparisin. It just does not feel natureal to me.

I've never been 'afraid' specifically about driving, I'd say the feeling is more 'concern', I've had dreams before about driving and I'm always terrible at it :P But though 17 here is the minimum age and I recently turned 18 I've yet to go for lessons or anything - I just don't have any need nor desire yet. It seems to be a required skill, and though I'm in no rush I hope eventually to get a license for license's sake, even if I don't have a car (though I may need it for job purposes if I can't walk/bike/commute) I do understand the concern/worry people have, and I know for a fact I'm gonna be pretty nervous whenever it is I get round to learning, but I expect I'll get used to it in time :P

Quite frankly, AS is probably the least of my concerns while driving. I've been old enough to drive for about five years, but have never learned how. I doubt I will be learning how and that is for the safety of both myself and everyone else on the road. :pale:

I could've got a permit at the age of 16 but I didn't and I still don't have one. I haven't even taken one look at a test. I'm too afraid to drive because I don't want to go over the speed limit or crash over anything. Though my mom is going to FORCE me to get a permit in a upcoming week... I think. Well I'll see how it goes.

When I was 15, I thought I'd be getting a learner's permit as soon as I turned 16. I am now 17 and I still don't have one.
I'm afraid to drive because I don't trust myself and I'm afraid of getting in an accident. I have bad hand-eye coordination, I "zone out" a lot, and I don't have much patience. I also have trouble making the effort to try new things...like driving.

I have just started to learn to drive and i was nervous to begin with. The best thing you can do is talk to your instructor and he will help. Mine has been brilliant and realy easy to get on with.

I got my driver's license recently. Most NTs seem to jump the gun and get their driver's licence as soon as they turn 16. They were all wondering why I didn't, I was absolutely terrorified and just plain bad at driving. Finally got it, over a year later than my peers. I failed my first driving test and passed the second time. I try to avoid having to drive, I hate it. :(

The driving age varies from country to country and state to state in the USA. It also varies from state to state in Australia in my state of Victoria the driving age is 19 previously 18 until July 1 (learners at 16). There are also cultural factors at play too here in Melbourne there is good public transport so it is relatively easy to get around. My family all got their licence later than 18, brother 20, step bros 19 and 22, mum 25, gran 26 and dad 23 my stepdad grew up i England he got his licence at their driving age of 17.

I am 28 and going for my licence on 25th of this month I hope to get it as it is my second try.

I have my permit but I hate driving. It's literally 500 times more deadly than flying a plane. :pale:

Afraid of driving, not really. Afraid of other drivers, yes.

I'm turned 16 this August and was not excited about it. I got my learning permit but had no interest in driving. I guess because I'm so anxious about things driving freaks me out and I'm so tense I can't concentrate on the road? I've driven at least 10 times and have not enjoyed it. I really hate it when I'm driving and there's someone behind me. I don't really mind driving on a road where no other cars are present though. I hate driving faster than 20 mph. I know most people my age love driving and going out with friends, I don't. Maybe half the problem is I have no place to drive to. Hmm :(

I've got my driving test on December 2nd. I'm always anxious about driving as there are WAAAY too many things to have to concentrate on. It's also annoying that this country insists on using manual gearboxes. Things would be much simpler with everyone in automatics.

Apparently my only minor problems are late anticipation of speed and gears at a roundabout.

Still, driving is probably the most stressful thing ever. Made even worse by the fact that the roads in the UK are so thin and overcrowded and parking spaces are tiny here. Americans are so lucky.

+1

I find driving itself to be really easy, but dealing with the maniacs around me is always unnerving (especially when I drive on the freeways in Chicago) because you never know what they dangerous thing they might do.

where i live kids usually get their Ls (learner's license) when they're 16, and then get their Ps (probational license) as soon as they turn 18. i'm 22 now and still haven't got my Ls because yes i am also terrified of driving. i can't do anything that requires coordination between all four limbs - i can't swim or ride a bicycle - nevermind actually having to look at where i'm going at the same time. i get a lot of slack for refusing to learn to drive from friends and family and they think my concerns are ridiculous as driving is 'really easy' 8O

Driving is easy. I went over the speed limit the very first time i drove. I think I went 60km/h in a 50 zone but it was downhill so i didn't realize I was going so fast i guess.

I'm not even 16 yet and I've driven a few times. I like it myself. If you just think about what could happen then, yes, it seems scary, but once you start doing it and get used to it all it gets easier each time. I also recommend starting in an automatic at first.
