Why do we go sit out in the middle of a giant field just to watch things go boom at midnight?

I don't like it :( it makes me tense. Also, I love the U.S., but watching fireworks is boring to me.

We don't do fireworks in my family. We just over to my grandma's or uncle's house and eat.
