I'm about to audition for Annie The Musical in a few days for a public theater program in my new city. I've always wanted to act but my mom never let me do it before. So this will (obviously) be my first ever play. I've memorized my audition song and now I just need to finish polishing it up with the help of my tuner. I'm going to need all the tips I can get. Any advice for a first-timer?

Pretend your audition is the performance. A performance is a performance.

It's OK to be scared to death.
Many theater people are friendly to people who are "different".
Listen to what other actors tell you what works for them.
Work hard at memorizing your lines.
You'll find that it is common for people who are actors to be shy in real life, or off the scale outrageous !

I've been in a few theatrical performances, and while I'm actually quite decent at them, it's not something I enjoy. :?

I was in a one-act, and I had fun with it. I plan to act in my school's drama and/or musical.

i have been in a few school productions myself.
acting seems to come naturally to me, and it appeared i could also rememebr everyone else's lines, so i could act as a souffleur while on stage.

if you have any experience in roleplaying games (tabletops like dungeons and dragons are the best type for this), it will also be quite easy to act, since you'd be experienced in playing out a character

One of the best parts of being autistic/ having aspergers is that as my mum says to act we are able to litterally become someone else, that's what you have to do. Ive been unfortunate in all my auditions because I've never known what I was going in to before hand- yeh you can probably see how that went so badly- but since you know your character try and become them, live as much in that lifestyle as you can for maybe a day or two before, possibly write bits of a diary or something so you have the chance to be really prepared. I've had the misfortune that at primary school my teachers knew my potential but for other auditions I got too nervous. Take something lucky, if you have one and make sure you try to look at he people auditioning (tip. Learned this for school talks, change your gaze every sentence if there is more than one person to look at- this makes you appear more confident)
And good luck, would love to hear how you get on!
