For some reason sounds really stick to my mind. I watched Night at the Museum 2 and those little Einstein bobble heads said it over and over again to 9 decimals. I never really forgot after that. It's funny because when I recall it I hear it in the obnoxious Einstein voices. I don't really care about pi so I've only wanted to know 3.14 but whatever. It's just that it doesn't really matter if you use 3.14159265 or 3.14 because you'll usually round the answer to one or two decimals anyway.
3.14159265 = more work, so why even memorize it?

I have all of them memorized, silly mortals!

Actually.... 3.14159265358979 ...15. Not that many, but I've still gone to more trouble than 99% of people.

If you're developing GPS software, then you need only 15 digits (3.14159265358979)

If you're doing a solo crossing of the Pacific in a sailboat, then you need only 7 digits (3.141593)

If you're translating the Old Testament word-for-word, then you need only 1 digit (3).

65. I used to know more, but it has been 20 years since I memorized it. Nice to see I'm not the only one who did this.

I got up to 100 before I banned myself from obsessing over pi. :shameonyou:

I've got 3.14159265359... I would have more but I've never really tried before. I have, however, calculated the square root of five to 10 digits. I was bored and I had a calculator that didn't have a square root function.

not too good, but that's years after I tried to remember them.

I used to know the whole periodic table and the first 30 square numbers, that was more my area, but out of practice now

why always pi, though? why not tau, phi or root 2? much more interesting irrational numbers to memorise

I always remember that much because it forms eight bars of an even beat when I say it.
(When I say it, I sort of slur "seven" into one syllable and say "oh" for zero.)

I'm not a "memorizer", I learned this recently, because it's useful and that's enough for me.

I only remember up to 626 because Stitch in Lilo and Stitch is "Experiment 626". I quit studying math and couldn't be happier.

If I counted correctly, that's 44. I have a paper with 792 digits of pi on it, and I want to eventually memorize all of them.

That much suits my needs and it's more than any of my classmates have memorized.
