I was curious if anyone here also likes to stay up all night as I do, right now it's 5AM my time.
I often stay up until 3-4AM, worst case scenario I end up staying awake much too long and then have to stay awake a total of two days or so.
A part of me likes to do this though, because then I can stay up all night and be alone, do things ALONE, and then sleep most of the day away
and not be bothered by people. I also have the advantage of independent study though, I realize all of this wouldn't be possible if I were attending a public school.

I also can not sleep without some sort of light source, a heated blanket, and I have to have music playing.

And here's the most embarrassing fact- I never slept in my own bed until I was 14 years old.
I used to have meltdowns over sleeping in my own room, because I was deathly afraid of something, but I never knew what exactly.
The only thing that eventually got me to stay in my room was a computer addiction ..

I get a burst of energy around 22:00 and have trouble getting to sleep, and I do attend public school so this is a real problem. I have to have some white noise too otherwise I hear everything. I hook up computer speakers to my ipod by my futon and listen to that.

What's independent study? Are you home schooled?

Independent study is where you go to a school to see a teacher about once a week and get a schedule of work to do at home and and then bring back the next week.
There is another girl that goes to the same school who was diagnosed with Aspergers- she's the only real friend I've made there.

I wish I could do that. I'm told that if I'm serious about my chosen path, I need to become accustomed to interaction with NT's. Do you go to a charter school or something?

Yea, it is. To be honest, it was the only school that would take me after getting kicked out by so many others.
But I live in a really lame area with equally lame schools, and this one might not be the biggest but the teachers are kind and patient, at least.

Yes, I tend to go to sleep late and feel my best when I get up at 11:00 AM, but when I have to go to work it sucks having to get up 4-5 hours earlier.

I've got Non 24 / Free Running Disorder, so my sleep cycle is basically longer than 24 hours.

Every solar day I'll wake up and go to sleep around an hour later than the previous one, so in about a month I'll cycle right round from a roughly normal sleep pattern, to being nocturnal, and then back to normal.

Before I ended up isolating myself following a major bout of depression, I'd pretty much just lose sleep trying to be awake during the day, and spend nights just lying in bed staring at the ceiling, utterly exhaused, but unable to sleep. When I did finally get to sleep at a time my body wanted, I'd regularly sleep for 16 hours or more, just to catch up on all the sleep I'd lost. On several occasions I've woken up a day later than I expected to.

After a couple of solid months without any interruptions from other people and obligations, my body got the chance to fall into a pattern that it considers normal, and I was finally getting regular healthy amounts of sleep, even if they weren't at times that anyone else would consider normal.

I researched sleep disorders beyond simple insomnia, went to my doctor asking for a refferal to a sleep specialist, saying what thought the problem was, underwent a 3 week sleep study, and was given the diagnosis.

In sighted people it's apparently genetic, or due to damage to the parts of the brain that govern circadian rythms, and there is no real treatment. You can be given massive doses of melatonin to force your body into a regular pattern, but you build up a tolerance so it's effectiveness is very limited.

My social life just doesn't exist, because I can't make plans more than a few days in advance, because I have no idea what my sleep pattern will be like, thanks to how any interferrence with it from appointments, visitors, or just phonecalls at the wrong time, can throw it off, with it taking several days to settle back into a regular pattern.

For me, it is a consequence of a medication I take (Concerta takes the Psycho out of Sarah, that's for sure). Npt so good for sleep, though.

I usually go to bed before midnight most nights, but rarely do I ever get a good night's rest without waking up at least once in the middle of the night.

I typically don't go to bed before 2 AM, and I still have trouble getting to sleep. A few nights, I've just waited the night out in the sleeping position, remembering myself check the clock every half-hour until I "woke up".

I used to alternate between sleeping at a regulat schedule and staying up all night or until like 4am. its always been special interests that would keep me up or adrenaline rushes caused by ideas i had. nowadays I've become very ritualistic about my bedtime. As I've gotten older I've needed more stability in my daily life. occasionally when I'm in a really good mood a special interest will still keep me up all night. something new that I've gotten interested in is eastern and native spirituality. and philosophy.. so in pursuing that I'm working up to getting up with the sunrise..I've always loved the quiet serenity of mornings anyway. but lately I've been so ovrtstimulated and stressed I've been crashing early and waking up late.

When i was a little kid i used to have to do curlups and pushups and jump on my bed for a couple hours just so i could get a little tired and id always wake up in the middle of the night screaming.. i still wake up like every few nights but thankfully no more screaming.

now i can't sleep at all with music, but sometimes turning the tv on low volume helps

I'm studying from home.
Awake all night, sleep all day.

I have a pretty normal sleeping pattern execpt for the position I sleep in.
I sleep with my knees tucked under my stomach and my fists tucked under my chin.
Can't sleep anyway else and I'm 21. :?

I seem to have a sleeping disorder. Forgot which, but it basically makes me unable to sleep properly at night, thus making me have to sleep during daylight, which is a hassle, and one of the major reasons I left school.
It also gives me some sort of brain fog (loss of concentration and consciousness) for a few minutes.
Nobody in my family believes me.

Yes.

For example: current time is 12:11 AM, and I'm eating nachos.
