How can I explain Asperger's to my grade 10 English class ?

I want to reduce misunderstandings about me.

Is this for an essay? If it isn't, wait until you can do one about any topic you desire, or at least one where Asperger's is a suitable topic.

Ah, okay then.

I'm not one with the knowledge for this sort of thing. The Essay idea was the first thing that came to mind.

Next idea is to put something up on the message board at your school. Type it up so that it's anonymous to anyone who may read it.

Sorry, that's the best I can come up with.

EasternCanuck,
If they become hostile to the anonymous message then I'll say that the NTs at your school are uncomfortable around you & just don't bother explaining.

The NTs at your school will mark you a liar & a freak.
Trust me. Go forward with the anonymous message & PM me after the initial reaction.

(*hates to be cynical with other people:*) Just as a fair warning, people probably aren't going to change. You can try the anonymous message, but telling them face to face may only make it worse.

Technically, aspergers is a brain disorder that is a very mild autism. These type of people (well, for most people here) have bad social skills, like having bad eye contact and misunderstanding body language (I used to have a hard time with this). They are misunderstood because they come up with bad topics or act weird to them. Some people call them a derogatory name such as 'ret*d'. But they can be exceptionally bright (such as me) or have really good talents.

A documentary on Asperger's is being shown to my English class and a 2-page description of it is also being handed out.

The teacher hopes that it will make the bullying stop.

I think telling people what AS is will just further isolate you more, but that's just my opinion. Ignorance is bliss...

When people ask me what AS is, I usually explain it that,
...most people are born with the instinct to learn how to communicate, but people with AS have that instinct missing, so we have to be taught, or take extra time and care to teach ourselves.
