I'm taking a trip down to Cornwall in mid-September. Mainly just a break to sit by the sea, but also a scouting around to see if there is any realistic possibility of moving that way*.

If not you could always look at the Isle of Wight, maybe ...

Lol, in the UK you're never further than 72, is it? or 76? miles away from the sea ... yeah, that's us :roll:

Yes, but for me the closest point is Felixstowe, not the most inspiring...
But some spots on the crumbling east coast are at least nice.

Bury St. Edmunds.

With flowers, a new cathedral tower and a lot of history.
Oh, and the smallest pub in Britain, though that's being challenged (again)

a lot. Me Too I think you do your best thinking in total silence. Depends In fact, I have a novel started!

I enjoy the silence too, I think better when I'm alone, and I have had a lot of crazy and creative ideas :lol:

ow id love silence. but living in a city (well, a pop of near 150.000), there is none. not since i live on a main road everyone passes, and a bar and a....shop you buy soft drugs straight across of me.

I don't like absolute silence - I think that's pretty much impossible anyway. But I like to be able to hear little things - clocks ticking - birdsong - voles fighting in hedgerows.

There are some things I like to be able to hear over a great distance: thunder, the exhaust beat of a steam train, the sound of a Merlin-engined aeroplane, or the sound of an Alfa Romeo.
