Reason number two is that she thinks dating before college is more academically and emotionally risky. In middle school and high school, students are going through puberty, so that means raging hormones, indecisiveness, and emotional immaturity mixed into the already dramatic nature of dating. In college, however, the students have all reached adulthood, and they become more rational and stable.

I see her point in both of these reasons, however, I feel that I'm mature enough to handle a relationship with a well-chosen guy. I can't just go right ahead and declare, "I can do whatever I want", because as of right now, I'm still living under my parents' roof, and they will be funding most of my college education as well.

Well a couple points:

-Honestly all you have to do is pass highschool to get into college, its not as though they specially select only the best of the best future students. So I am not sure why she thinks people in college would be so much better.

-She is right it's more risky.....but considering you are 18 it should be up to you to take that risk or not, but of course take precautions. Also though typically by late highschool puberty is over for most. I don't know of many 18 year olds still going through puberty.

-And yeah I wouldn't suggest declaring that either......however I hope they really would not seriously use that you live under their roof and their funding of your college education to control all aspects of your life. But maybe waiting till college is a better idea depending on how limited the 'pool' is I mean is there even anyone you are interested in right now?
My mom wanted me to get into an Ivy League school or equivalent, so that the pool will be "smarter" and "more mature". :? At those schools, they really do select the brightest, most hard-working students. I was interested in this Aspie guy from my school, but it's clear that it wouldn't work out. And with graduation coming in only a few weeks, college is about the only choice I have. :P

I'm allowed to, but I choose not to.

Kind of, I mean I'm allowed to date. The problem is though, I can't date this girl who I have a crush on (and I think she has one on me) because she's 18 and I'm (just turned about 4 days ago) 16.

I'm right galaxy's niece and she's letting me use her pc for a bit! I like this site! I can't wait to register. I think that people should date from freshman year of high school because it's just like a dress rehearsal for when you are older. You just should NOT have sex in any way.
I think that you should be 18 when you first try out sex and that there should be condoms used. I want to date this guy. I'm in 7th grade and people go together all the time but just in school. They don't do anything bad. they just hug and kiss a lot but not even on the mouth or maybe they do when nobody's looking. I want to date this guy but I blew it - you can read my post if you want - it's depressing though. It's on this forum under "help". I hope somebody can help me stop my pain.

Sounds like she has fair points but I don't really get why she then doesn't just trust you to use your own judgement, after establishing that you understand this.

Of course this is coming from the mom that is 'frowned upon' for pushing DD too high on the swings (she likes it better that way!) and not being within 3 feet distance all the time (she knows to come to me when she needs me and I do watch her to see if there's nothing too dangerous around).
So, maybe my parenting ideas are not exactly average :) I'm a big believer in letting children explore within reasonable boundaries. I just seem to have a different concept of 'reasonable' than those overly protective types...

Yes we can be a bit naive at times but naive and completely unfamiliar with the situation seems worse to me. If we never see a situation, how are we supposed to learn how to deal with it? Not to mention that hearing 'you are unable to do this' too much can have a huge impact on your sense of self :x

Yep. *nods*

Nope, not ready for that yet. The very thought of it with the wrong person scares me.

As for dating etc because your 18 I think you have the right to date whoever you want. However in my opinion your parents are right in this aspect its not good to get into "heavy dating"(or wind up pregnant or with a broken heart etc) while in school/college? Id wait for that until your older, personally I stick with group dating and casual dating(when I do go out on dates). Also Id start with introducing your family and maybe having them go out with you while on your date?(that is if your cool with your parents or whomever is taking care of you doing that)?
I know I started out with my parents doing that and or having a responsible but cool adult watching us?

I don't think I'd be comfortable with having my parents or any adults tagging along on dates. It feels like it would be... awkward.
What I don't understand is, my parents let me go to school dances with a date (just as friends) but they won't let me actually date.
(As for which college I'm actually going to, it's MIT.)

For the college thing oh ok. Hope your doing well in it?
As for the dating thing I think I can understand a bit more from where there coming from. I know when I was younger I had a naive look to me and my parents knew this however I certinaly wasnt naive I just had a sign of some sorts that said here I am take advantage of me! Maybe you have this sign too and your parents know it?

No, you should first try anything sexual with someone who you are (not think you are) truly in love with and are old and mature enough to handle it.

I'm not in college yet. I just graduated (or... about to graduate?) from high school and I still have the entire summer.
I think I know what you mean by having an immature appearance. My mom was just lecturing me about it earlier last week. She says that even though I'm smart intellectually, I appear "dumb" compared to other kids my age. :x

If your comfortable with this post your picture? I doubt that to me youll look dumb, however according to my parents I have the look in my eyes of a ret*d person yet according to the aspies I know real well even though Im not the brightest the look I give off is actually a genius look? Im not trying to brag but maybe you have the Aspie/Autie look to you?
As for appearance do you like makeup, dressing up etc? I hit that stage but only for guys I liked in the past then it ended and their went the pretty girl who got taken advantage of back to the ugly tomboy(as Im called though I dont consider myself in the least bit ugly) Anyways maybe this is why they wont let you?

I'll turn 18 years old and in college in November, but I still haven't dated. I have no interest in a relationship either. Most high schools boys are too immature to handle a relationship anyway and are not worth your time. I always thought from the time I was 15 to save dating for college. I'm going to college soon, and if I ever decide to date, I would rather date in college than high school.

I'd rather not post my picture, but I see what you mean. My face is round and very flat, and I never wear makeup.
