I do it a lot in an effort not to seem like a bumbling fool. Most of the time, if I'm writing a report for school or something, it will sound very much like the writing style of the author of whichever book I happen to be reading at the time (this happens automatically).

Haha, I gradually adopt the personalities of those I hang around with too often... And by gradually I mean not gradually at all. Not. At all.

The reason for this is that I simply do not HAVE a fixed personality. I have a fixed Essence, or Being, if you will..... But "personality"???? PSHHH.

And yeah tons of people love to call me "fake".... hahaha. I don't mind being fake if it means I get to wear the fancy hats and sweaters of all my loved ones (so-to-speak) :)

^^ This is exactly how I feel. It's like I change personality to suit whomever I'm with or talking to.

lol I do that a lot to, I change based who im talking to, I feel like its some sort of Adaptive thing

Say as Aspies we have the whole classic social skill issue, well what if we start mirroring those around u simply to appear as if we "belong" more
sort of as a way to get around some of the awkwardness we have? Some sort of "survival" thing if you get what I mean haha.

Oh god, I thought I am the only one. I often adopt tones of voice of people who I talk with, and also some phrases.

Every time I meet someone new I study them, and change my behavior to fit the interaction, but if I am around them a lot I start to mirror them, but I am aware enough to alter my behavior before I mirror them too much....

If the phrase practice makes perfect makes a difference, then think about it refine it shape it, make it your own. On that note its not even just an autism specific trait lots of people do it. I feel as though the explanation is as simple as oh that's kind of a habit of mine or something along those lines. If someone is going to persecute you for it they are probably not worth your time.

I feel like I do. If I'm around someone long enough, I sometimes start to mimic their posture or say a phrase they constantly say. I also feel like I sometimes act like characters TV shows or movies.

every time I meet someone I find interesting I severely star to mirror them. :(
And then it ends up sticking! It's confusing, because then I don't even remember who I was before.

As a kid I never had a personalty. I never talked to anyone and never did anything - I was like a robot.
Over time I begun to observe people A LOT and the personalty I have created for myself today is a collaboration of many actors I've seen on TV, people I have just seen around and friends.
- This was all when i was very young; so it isn't like I have to act every day or anything. It's just who I am now

I have noticed this over a course of time, and I thought that everybody had that happened to them, and then when I found out that they didn't, I began wondering why I did some things.

I tend to do that sometimes without realizing it, but thankfully nobody notices.
