I find the smell vile, but if others wish to destroy their lungs that's their problem--as long as they don't do in next to me.

I have never smoked, and absolutely never will. It just seems repulsive!

Then tobacco smoke is the greater of two evils.

It is vile and should be restricted to something like a 'smoking booth', where a bunch of them can go and puff away in isolation. Get it off the streets.

Exactly. Why would anyone start smoking in this day and age, knowing all that we do. Morons.

I have never tried smoking and I don't intend t ever do so. I hate it when people smoke around me, and in general, I think it is pointless and quite disgusting. You stink afterwards, you're slowly killing yourself, if not, doing your body much harm, and it is such a waste of time and money!

I am so glad that we now have the smoking ban in pubs and restaurants, here in the UK. It is so nice to be able to go for a meal, or a quiet drink, without that horrible smell of smoke, the smoke itself...and it's also odd not being asked if you want to sit "Smoking" or "Non-smoking"!
The idea is, is that it should hopefully prevent people who all ready smoke to stop, because they will have to sit outside, and it wouldn't exactly be nice it was frezzing cold and/or raining! And also to prevent young people not to start smoking, because they won't be around it, and see people do it as much now.

Another reason I would never want to start smoking is because I know full well that I would find it very hard to control myself, and stop. I would smoke heavily, I'm sure. I'm bad enough with sweets and fizzy drinks, and fast food, and that's all unhealthy enough to worry about, without smoking! I mean, with sweets and all that, I don't feel I have to go and buy them, or eat fast food every day. I just can't resist temptation when I have the chance. So if I have a box of cigarettes and a lighter in my own home, or with me, I would keep doing it!
Which is why I will NEVER start smoking!

Slow suicide.

These folks need to tip some extra dough into insurance to offset the incredible burden they present on society.

I smoke and I fully know the risks and hazards but as arrogant as this sounds, I don't care. I don't want to live long and I actually like smoking. I've never smoked indoors and I never smoke round children or people who don't like smoking. It really annoys me when people shove their opinions down my throat, as if their constant disapproval and ignorance could make me quit - smoking is a choice I am legally old enough to make.

I don't mind the fact that they SMOKE. It's this: they DO affect others.

One of the prior Chief Justices of the Supreme Court once said "My right to swing my fist ends at the tip of your nose". I think that describes perfectly the nature of 'personal space'. While it may seem that smokers are rarely allowed to blow smoke in our faces anymore (except here in Europe, where they're far more enlightened, and have granted an extension of 'smokers' rights'.... ), there's the extra burden of treatment of emphysema, asthma, lung cancer, etc. that play out in dollars and cents re: public health.

Many of us are sick of footing the collective health bill for those of you who've chosen to slowly kill yourselves.

Fairly common smoking addiction and ADD/ADHD. Particularly combined typed (inattentive and hyperactivity). I would seek treatment for ADD/ADHD if I was a smoker on the autism spectrum.

Hate it. I prefer if smokers stay outside while smoking, far away from me, or not at all.
Why?
Well, it could be my dad's fault (he smokes) and I'm sure some of you know what happens when someone smokes before a baby is born (asthma, but not severe for me)
That, Cancer, addicting, and just generally harmful.

I quit 4 years ago. Sometimes I still 'smoke' my pen. But I'm free. :)
