Yep. OCD here.

It tends to manifest itself in me having bad thoughts, and being unable to get rid of them...

I might have OCD- pertaining to bad thoughts and worries.

For example, for 2 months, when I was in 10th grade, I had this fear that I might have AIDS, so I would freak out at the moment I saw something on my skin (when it turned out it was just acne), and I would constantly wash my hands and put seat protectors on the covers of toilets where ever I went.

I have plenty of OCD traits, some come and go, but the main ones have been the compulsions to do certain things (like touching the door handle ALL the way over and if I didn't do it perfectly I had to close the door again) I've had strange compulsions to touch certain keys on the keyboard, or part of teh dashboard when i'm in a car or something silly like that  When I've been stressed I have a tendency to get into a battle of wills with myself, like in my head I'd say something that I didn't want to do or that I felt negatively about, and I'd have to sing "La la la" in my head or something to shut myself up, because the more time I allowed myself to think, the longer it went on. When I draw it's usually the same thing over and over because It doesn't come out perfect and so I have to start again on a blank page, even if I've used pencil and could rub it out, I still want a fresh page to feel "clean" :P I've been taking something which helps me with the compulsions though, but I still get obsessed with things very easily. It wouldn't surprise me if OCD and AS are closely linked.

I'm pretty sure I also have OCD, although not the worst case of it. I obsessively collect video games and get stressed out when I want to collect too much.

Yep. (Hence, my username) My OCD is more annoying than my AS!

I talk more openly about my OCD than my AS in real life.

Yes. I wash my hands about 10 times a day and I worry about embarrassing things that happened to me years ago.

I'm not officially diagnosed with anything, but I have this thing that when I put a glass or cup down on a table, it has to go flatly down on it, and not crooked. I hate the sound and feel of when a glass is put on a table and it rattles, so I make sure it goes straight down, flat surface to flat surface, with no rattle. It doesn't bother me so much if other people rattle their cups or glasses, because I don't feel it rattle. If it doesn't go down straight, I have to repeat it a few times until it does. So it's quite obvious really to others when they see me repeatedly picking up a glass, cup, plate or anything else with a flat bottom to it, and putting it down again, but I think they don't want to mention it or ask me why I do it, because of embarassment.

I also have my own plate for mealtimes because I know exactly how it's washed and who by (always me), and I keep it in my bedroom. I don't have a problem with germs, but I hate it when I see smudges and fingerprints on the other plates in my house, it makes me feel a bit sick. I also keep a set of cutlery in my bedroom too, for the same reasons, as well as a glass, bowl, mug, etc. I also generally like things to be nicely lined up and orderly.

If anyone else does similar things to these, please let me know.

My son does something similar although he doesn't keep them in his room. I set the table at dinner but then he picks it all up and rinses it off and either air dries it or uses a paper towel to dry it. He'd much prefer I use paper plates. I use to harass him about it but his therapist said let it go so I do now. He use to do much worse things like not touch his food but he grew out of that. He sometimes picks at his hair and pulls on pieces he says are split ends. We had him on medicine for these things but that just made other things bad so we've started to wean him off now. Praying these things don't come back.

Do you think more often then not people with Asperger's have OCD? I never asked his doctor.

I used to do the same thing as your son with cutlery, I used to inspect it very closely and put it in the sink if it wasn't up to standards. And I would rinse my plate if it wasn't good enough. I'm a lot more comfortable with my own now. I also use one tea towel for drying my stuff. (I've now adopted it as my own. Nobody else uses it. You might find that your son may benifit from his own tea towel too.) I think a lot of people with Aspergers and other ASD's have very strong OCD tendancies, at least. And many people who go to their doctor because of OCD have later been diagnosed with an ASD. They are very strongly linked, in my opinion. Like most neurological conditions really. Maybe ask your son if he has 'bad thoughts' that he has trouble getting rid of, that might indicate OCD.
