I am smart in some areas- I have the knowledge and vocabulary in some areas such as English to ace it-but the way I structure sentences often confuses examiners. I can do maths, physics, chemistry and bio easily, but i never study for them, so my marks aren't great. I am also talented at art- yes so far, I sound up myself writing this! And music...
However, when I did an IQ test ( this was when I was ten, so a long time ago!! !!), I got full points in all the areas such as puzzles, etc but not in general knowledge( not saying what overall I got). So define smart...
Also everyone with Asperger's is different- and that should be obvious. So sometimes being smart, say with horses, is another "definition" of smart. But from what I understand, we are cluey people who can't always communicate this.

Ive seen people mention him a few times and I'm curious, has Bill Gates actually been diagnosed with AS, or is it just specualtion?

In answer to the OP's question, I don't know many other people with Asperger's either, but I don't think it affects overall intelligence very much, as most of us are very intelligent in some areas, but not very intelligent in others.

I don't know really, I suppose folks with AS may have an aptitude towards retaining information and a mental physiology geared towards pretty intricate systems/diagrams. I for one certainly don't mirror that statement (breakin' the mould since 93' ). But I don't think that makes us any "smarter" than NTs or autistics.

Most AS people show a pretty high intelligence, at least in my experience. I tend to use atypical language and I usually have ot explain the meanings of a lot of the words to my non-AS friends.

I was thinking exactly the same thing lol

O, stoppit! Yew kin bee a horibul spiller and stall bee sewper smarrt. for criyingg owt lowd. I bit mowst of yew wuddent fare to weel wittowt your spellcheekers eether. :P

Inknow I'd be lost wtithout it and those squiffly red lines under every word I mistype!

Backspace is my most worn out key. Bad spelling and/or typos have nothing to do with intelligence. I know plenty of people with perfect grammar and spelling who can't remember what 12 X 12 is without a calculator, and can't get their stupid video players from flashing 12:00, when the manual explains exactly how to set the time.

I like some of the comments about being "book smart" as opposed to "common sense ignorant" too. So true. I can come across as a complete idiot when talking to others, but that's only because everything I'm saying is going right over their heads. I mean, it makes sense to me, so it should make sense to them, right?

Besides, all that really matters is whether we can tell when others are being stupid.

Right?

Right?

Aspies are usually no smarter than NTs, but they're more likely to be gifted, so they're smarter on average.

Idk I'm not very clever. When it comes to maths I'd guess I'm even below average.

Like with NTs, the intelligence of an aspie can vary. Though, as others have said, people with AS are usually more book smart.

I'm more creative than I am with intelligence. So I'm not too sure if I'm a really smart one?

I am more creative, too. My math skills absolutely suck.

BTW, I love your avatar, superboyian!

Let's put it this way. Aspies can't be "dumb" (mental defectiveness excludes the possibility of the diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome), but they're not necessarily geniuses either. Basically, aspies must have an IQ of 70 or higher (an IQ below 70 indicates mental retardation). Often, but not always, individuals with Asperger's syndrome have an above-average IQ (110 to 130), but it is not uncommon to see individuals with Asperger's syndrome who have an average (90 to 110) or below average (70 to 90) IQ. Individuals who would have been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome but have an IQ lower than 70 are merely labeled "autistic". It is possible, however, for some people with Asperger's syndrome to have a co-morbid condition that causes or results in mental retardation, but this is very rare.
