I am 13.
I grew out of when I was eight and tried to run away.
Four years later I saw 'I Am Legend'.
Sleep with the lights on or every sound I hear (and my ears are hypersensitive) is a Darkseeker coming to eat me. I also have to sleep facing the door, under a blanket, etc. Or I can't sleep at all.

I'm over 18, and sometimes I do get scared of the dark, but not so much since I have a dog and she has her crate in my bedroom. It calms me when she's in my room with me. I remember watching Signs when it came out and that night I turned on my closet light to sleep. But this was before having a dog. But there are street lights in our neighborhood and it slightly does light up my room.

Easy, its written in our gentic code.
When its Dark you cant see
When you cant see you stumble and break a limb
When you break a limb you get eaten or die some other way.

Electric lights were invented what, roughly two hundred years ago? Thats not enough time to write ones gentic code.

Deathbymonkeys is quite funny and quite right.

Hi all im steve im an artist in the glow in the dark world from london.

I do understand the feeling of being afraid of the dark and belive it or not i do suffer from being afraid of the dark
especially after a nightmare.

Can i ask you all a question?
Do you think seeing a freindly image of your choice glowing in the dark would help?

We will be adding soon a website with personilised childrens to teenagers images
Painted on canvases and door plaques.
In glow in the dark phosphorscent paint that glows in total darkness
and florescent paint that glows under a uv blacklight.

If you would could choose a personilised image to go on your wall what would it be?

I'm not necessarily afraid of the darkness, just afraid of what might be in it. Especially if I'm outside, because there might be some coyote or even a person that I can't see. Not being able to see everything and any possible dangers is probably what makes people 'afraid' of it.

I either sleep with the TV on, a light on or the curtains open (streetlights are enough light, and we live opposite one).

The latter is of course the most wife-friendly!

I simply can't sleep with total darkness.. at all.

I'm twenty and not afraid of the dark, but I do get uneasy at times.

I especially get uneasy if I'm walking home and I hear a rustle in the tall grass (I live in a small town and there are coyotes) or know there's a car coming from behind me (I have an odd feeling I'm going to get shot by some insane person).

Not afraid of sleeping in dark, in fact I quite like it and can't really sleep without it. I had a panic attack in dark, murky water once, and I'm scared to go in water with poor visibility now. I can't really stand dimly lit rooms though. It annoys me. I need bright light to do homework well, frequently I will have four lights on in my room(and it's not big) when I need to.

I'm scared of the dark (espcially when I'm anxious) and I don't know what's there, however, if I'm upset, I like to go into a small room (usually the bathroom) and lie on the floor/sit on the floor with the lights off and a little natural light in because it calms me down. Being scared of the dark is normal, it's fine. :)

I'm afraid of the dark when i'm inside. For some reason i'm not afraid of the dark when i'm outside. I'm mostly afraid when i'm alone especially when I'm going to sleep, so I sleep with the tv og disney channel. I feel like someone is there when it's all dark and quiet, but I know there is no one there.
I'm 17

I was very afraid of the dark when I was ten (still am, but to a far lesser extent) I always thought something was going to pop out at me (and several times I "saw" (although I was very sleep deprived) things like a homless woman with messy hair crawling up the stairs) so I rarely left my room.
