I think AS is both a blessing and a curse, I consider it a disability, but also a gift.
And although I am mostly proud of it, I sometimes hate some things about it. I wish I could manage it :)
Sometimes it really goes on my nerves and I feel so sad about being born like that, but I can't be other way and can't imagine myself being any other way than Aspie, so yes, I am really proud to be an Aspie.

This thread is proof that they shouldn't "cure" Aspergers.

I'm a proud Aspie. Yes, it can be kind of hard, but it's apart of you. You should embrace it. Think of all the non-aspie teens that you see at school or where ever. We have something they don't and it makes us unique. Why not be proud? Say you aced a test or made the team. You'd be proud right? So why not be as proud of your autism as you are about your intelligence or talent or whatever? Those traits make up who you are. Be proud of who you are. (This is kind of ironic. I have the lowest self-esteem in the universe. )

I'm indifferent about it. I'm not proud of it, but, nor vise-versa. I actually just came to terms that I'm disagnosed with it and I may have it. Though, that doesn't mean anything to me at all. AS does not make me who I am that's for sure. I am just me. Just like everybody else. AS doens't define me the least bit. I've overcome my problems and yes, I still have much to learn about the world but everybody does.

I still have the same opinion as my first post on this thread.

It's a disability, a disadvantage. It's all very good and well saying "I don't care what they think" but you NEED to be able to care, or atleast pretend to care. We can't do this, so it's a disability. We are disabled and I can't be proud of that.

It's like you wouldn't be PROUD of being born with one leg, or getting Leukaemia, you'd be ashamed.

i have physical deformities, whilst im not proud to have them, why would i be ashamed?

as I have already said, on this thread and others autism can be a good thing and often sociaty causes the "disability"

While indifferent about having Aspergers and I could not imagine what life as an NT would be like without having experienced it and therefore don't think that I can decide if I would rather be an Aspie or not. However, I do mostly like being an Aspie, though there are times I hate it but those tend to be short lived.

Why would I be proud of something that is not particularly positive? Not that I'm saying it's negative, but as I understand it, people are proud of things like achievements and talents, not disorders or unusual states of mind.

I don't see how it is either of those things. It's just the way we are; there are good things and bad things about it.
