Yes, I would consider that somewhat offensive. Dr. Hans Asperger was Austrian so 'Asperger's' doesn't precisely translate, by pronunciationg, into English. I've heard various ways, such as with the 'soft' j sound - that's fine.

I am HFA/Aspie, dual Dx. Do you all refer to yourselves as 'Aspies?' That's find & considered acceptable. Personally, I do refer to myself as Autistic too. I call myself an Autist probably since I have a high genetic propensity to Autism and Autist is an all-inclusive term - I like it!

Ok, those cartoon are cute! :D

I think having a sense of humor is good.....but I wouldn't ever tease or purposely call Asperger's something else. I don't mind being Autistic so Autist is perfectly ok for me.

Regional too, I suppose. 'Autie' is ok but not inclusive of AS.

Hans Asperger was Austrian, and thus a German speaker, and in German apostrophes are not used like in English... so 'Aspergers' is indeed correct. :P

Which dictionary should I find it in?

I find it funny. My dad (undiagnosed, but definitely has it) and I will make assburger/Rain Man jokes to each other a lot.

Only place I've seen that was on ED. I never heard anyone say it IRL before.

I wouldn't be surprised if shows such as South Park latched on to the pronunciation of that term.

It's already been used on a cartoon it's a british cartoon called stressed eric, but it had a completely different meaning and context. The main character eric's boss says "arse-burger" though. It's an old cartoon aswell from the 90s/early 00s, so it was before all this "assburger!! !" crap

I hate it when people say "ass burgers" or what ever it is,

an idea i got from spectrumforums was to start pronouncing it "AsperJer's" xD:

Had that problem. On Youtube, unfortunately. And could you guess the nasty reply?

"**** you and your assburgers you should kill yourself"

If I have to hear those words out of someone's mouth, I will tackle them to the ground and not care that I get beaten up and in trouble. First I must find a way to get a supernove energy burst, however, because I'm weak and inactive.

^ Yikes, that's a brutal comment to give an Aspie.

I guess another reason why using slang terms is dangerous since this can marginalize the condition. Personally, if anyone used these slang/derogatory terms in my presence I would be UPSET too.

Yeah from an outside to inside it can be really irritating.
But when I was first told I had Aspergers last year, I actually heard it as "Asperger's", then I quickly came up with "Well now, I'm hungry. Let's go to town and get us some Ass Burgers".
Basically a joke to amuse myself the second I found out I guess...

But that joke wore off fast. Now if someone says it to me in sorta poking fun and stuff, I don't really like it.
