There's this kid in my class that really makes me mad

*This is a rant*

Everyone calls him "the class genius" and talks about how he should be in 9th grade rather than eighth because he's oh, so smart, but in reality, he's a jerk. I mean, does it really make you smart to be able to use a bunch of "big" words like "lugubrius", "strabismus", "arbitrary", and "entice"? And because he talks so fast, and no one can understand him, they just assume that what he says is law. In reality, I've picked out a lot that he's said in class that's so outrageously erroneous that I would laugh at him if the teacher wasn't around.
He also thinks that he's some sort of assistant teacher. Today in math, he raised his hand and said, "I think they all slipped up when they had to do...and to me it's obviously simple, but I have discovered that overall, my abilities in the field of math are superior to the other people in here".
I was thinking, "Who asked you?"
It absolutely makes me want to break something whenever I have to watch all the teachers ooh and ah over his "intelligence". Today, in social studies, he was bragging, "I am outraged that I have merely outstripped 90% of the kids in this class on the test."
All the kids were laughing and telling him how smart he is, but I was just thinking, "Do you have anything better to do than to brag and berate people?"

Yeah, braggarts are annoying.

It seems to me that people like that are trying to reassure themselves that they are adequate, that's why they work so hard to find ways that other people are not as good as them.

I had a coworker who did that all the time, denigrate other people to be able to tell us all how much better than us she was. I used to say (to myself - I don't need to have a big argument with anybody) that if she actually were that superior she wouldn't have to keep pointing it out all the time. We'd be able to tell.

Gah! I understand why that person would anger you, I feel annoyed by this guy just by reading your post. =p

I am sorry to say, but people like that never really grow out of it.

Put your anger towards good use. Like betting them on tests etc??

OMG, in my class there is a guy who is really dumb, but is using some ''complex'' words and is working really hard for school, of who everyone thinks he's a genius! He doesn't even get the most simple logics!

The guy in your class probably won't ever change, I'm sorry. He has such a big ego that it is uncureable. Try to beat him!

Meh, he might get attention now, but think about it like this; your obviously the only really intelligent person in the class since you notice how dumb he is, and your not bragging about it, so take some confidence in that. And also, when you get to more advanced grades, trust me, he's not going to look so smart.

Ignore them. A person is smart, people are stupid. They just dont understand what he says and assume hes smart. He probably has no Idea what hes talking about.

A freind of mine is very clever... and everybody takes waht he says as law... untill I relised that alot of what he says is a total guess:) though he goes really mad if u say he's wrong! It does quite piss me off that he always thinks he is right about everything (we were disgussing the far future and he kept dismissing what I was saying! I can see why that guy anoys u... he would anoy me...

You better just leave him. I know it's annoying, but don't let it get to you. Just don't let it get to you. He probably isn't doing it on purpous. Someday he'll learn the hard way, and it will be painful for him. Coz if he's not really smart, he cannot go around pretending that forever. So if anything, just know that and feel bad for him. It's probably not his fault. It's gonna be soo painful for him, way worse than it is for you now, when ppl find out he's not really that intelligent. Maybe he has AS too?

I have to admit I use fairly obscure words, but that's because I have a hard time remembering which words are obscure and which ones are common. Besides, preciseness is a big thing for me so using a vague word makes me feel really weird inside, like I have a caterpillar crawling inside me. Anyway, I doubt he actually does it for the same reason. If he is using the word incorrectly then he is just trying to look cool. He probably doesn't really like himself as much as he shows. If he was secure in himself he would not need to brag. Just ignore him because that's what he dislikes most.

He sounds pretty annoying. There are a couple of people like that in my classes. I mean one person acts as though someone else is stupid if they make a mistake even though they speak a load of rubbish half the time. Plus there's this one guy in my philosophy class who won't ever shut up and the way he speaks is just sooooooooooooooooo annoying! I mean he starts talking and asking these dumb questions and eventually the rest of the class just laughs at him although in the I think you're smart kinda way.
The best way to beat these types of people is to make sure you do better than them in classes. Easier said than done.
