the facts

homosexuality is a love and attraction between 2 people of the same sex

gay is to be happy and cheery: also associated with homosexuality

lately i have noticed people saying teenagers a more accepting of gays and bisexuals, but, this is not true where i come from, they are infact scared and sometimes lash out violently against gays, to go so far as to kill them.

i havnt had any personal verbal abuse or any physical attacks because of my sexuality (male, bisexual) but has anyone here had any (feel free not to say if you dont want to)

is our culture more or less accepting of homosexuality and have you ever experienced homophobia

Our society is less accepting of homosexuality --- I hear more attacks against homosexuals, as well as more homophobic slurs in the streets. More importantly...

Eww, what is Anwar Ibrahim doing with his aide? No wonder he was sacked as DPM!! ! Sad!! !

It really depends on what part of the world you are living in.
Just look at the laws...they range from same sex marriages being legal to the death penalty if caught doing some homosexual act. Of course there could be places where the govenment is accepting of homosexuals yet many individuals will act on their own and murder them.

I'm in agreement with Jc6chan. - Nationalities do have different views, although ''Gays'' are gaining recognition. - Notice the Gay pride parades that happen, not only in Canada, but in America, sweden, etc. - Also there was a celebration of the LGBT. - Activists are appearing in many countries. - This may just be a transitional period. I wouldn't say things are just as bad or worse. - Schools are still a hard place to be in for gays, etc, especially in large schools. - I was in a rather small highschool and our grade knew each other well. - When my best friend ''came out of the closet'' as they say, no one looked down at him. Of course they teased, but it wasn't in a bad sense. He never said to me that he was unhappy of how people treated him. He was actually relieved he spoke out to his friends and people he knew, because he got to tell of who he really is, as apart to a fake image he showed everyday.

People hating gays is generally because they don't understand them, and that they are not part of the 'social norm'. It's a bit like why people don't like asperger's people just from how we act. I'm not saying everyone feels this way to gays and aspeger's, just an example. My school has a few gays, and they mostly get treated well, but there's those idiots who think that because they're gay, they are trash and should be cold shouldered. It's probably because they don't understand a gay person.

People who go to my school hate gay people, and teenagers in general use "gay" as a word to describe something as crap.

I personally couldn't care less what people do, and who they do it with, it's their own damn business.

Ive never received any kind of discrimination for my sexuality, that's of course because Im a hetero sexual, however i have seen it and i find it disgusting. one of my closest friend's is my homosexual cousin and down here in the south people get on my nerves with how homophobic they are. I lost a best friend because i could not stand to here him bad mouthing people, usually my cousin, for something that he and most of the religious right wingers 'which is almost everyone down here' think is a choice. It was knowing this very ignorant person for so long that has caused me to be prejudiced against all the prejudiced people an no one else. Really hasn't helped my popularity here in SC
The point is that homophobia is about culture and what things people have been taught to believe there whole lives

But what we are taught might be wrong! How can you explain the teaching of Pluto as a planet for 70 years and the Earth-centred universe for 700 years, for example?

So why don't we accept new realities --- like homosexuality?

I'm not saying that what we have been taught is flawless im saying the same thing your saying. In my region of the US has always had a culture obsessed with religious intolerance, homophobia, and all other forms of bigotry. Not to say those things don't occur almost everywhere im just saying that here its almost accepted to be a racists and totally accepted to be a homophobes because all the ignorant people down here agree that "Jesus" doesn't like those kind of people.

The circles I visit joke about homosexuality a lot, but I think if one were to confess their homosexuality then they would be accepting.

well if its meant in jest and not maliciously derogatory i guess its ok, but what really annoys me is the lack of education on the subject.

There's lots of education about it here. So much it's rather annoying, really. Lots of half-hour long educational videos with trippy colors attempting to tell us being gay is okay and to use condoms...Points that got across quite a long time ago.
