So my obsession is dogs and dog training, my mom says I need to "branch out" and try new things. But the problem is, is that dogs well they are my obsession as in the only thing I think about all day every day. I'm not good at any thing else. I have played sports and tried to play an interments and I'm no good at it and don't really like it that much. All I want do to is train and compete with dogs. When I was younger I had my own dog that was a pure bred show dog. She won alot of ribbons and things like that. I loved it! But my mom thinks now I need to "branch out" but I really don't want to! Do any one elses parents think they need to "branch out"??? Or is it just my parents that say that?? :?:

Connected with your interest could be breeding? Would you have an interest in breeding dogs in future? I understand your Mum probably means something different though.

No defiantly not. That was a long time go that I had a show dog. But now I don't support breeding. More like adopting from a shelter rescuing dogs, that type of thing. I have a dog I rescued from a shelter but my mom still says I need to try new things. But I don't understand! I could have a career in dogs but she says theres no money in that and I need to find some thing I could make money at. :(

Your mom's concerned about your future, that's all. What you need to do is show her that there is a future in dogs for you. You could go into dog training and grooming as a career, veterinary medicine, or any number of other perfectly reasonable canine-related fields that don't have to be low-paying. Is there a local animal shelter or veterinary clinic where you could volunteer on a weekly basis? This will help you meet the people doing this kind of work and give you a better idea of what kinds of careers are out there for a young person interested in dogs.
