In June 2010, I went to summer school. It was actually wonderful. The teachers and students were nice. I got to use the computer and play board games, and best of all, I actually wanted to socialize for the first time. I made four friends. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being unaware that others are in the room, and 10 being as social as an NT, I'd say I'm a 6. Have you ever wanted to socialize?

I put myself as a 5, although I was drawn to 6 - I can be social up to a point, smaller family gatherings & the like, but it's a strain and I definitely need breaks and time alone. As Jonah Lewie once sang, 'you'll always find me in the kitchen at parties.' Or, more likely, in a darkened room running maintenance routines on a computer.

Oops, sorry - hadn't realised this was in the adolescent forum, came in from the front page. Apologies if I've screwed anything up :(

I don't mind socializing if certain conditions are met. In big group discussions at parties and stuff I usually just sit back and listen to everyone else. In groups of 3 or 4, I'll throw a couple comments to make the situation funnier. I'm usually a wall flower when it comes to the social scene

A year ago I would have said I was at a 4... Silently panicking in the corner of the room.
Recently however, I've gotten some medication to lower my heart rate and end my panic in social situations, so now I'd say I can be a 6 or 7 on a good day :)
Mind you though, I've never delved in the "partying" thing, with a bunch of random NT strangers and alcohol. This is just around my close acquaintances and friends.

I'm always wanting to socialize, sometimes I even make an effort to, but I'm almost always ignored, sometimes even by my friends.

Most certainly 3. If there's a party with Alcohol/Tobacco of any sort, there would be no way in heck I'd join in - being tee-total and a non-smoker myself. Even with a party without such supposed "luxuries", I'd be reluctant to join anyway; struggling to find the time to pry myself away from the computer. Both at parties or not, I follow the general rule of "speak if spoken to" and, once in a blue moon, "approach if you feel it necessary". In the former case, I get into a general conversation with others until either the conversation ends or turns sour - in which i fade out to silence. The latter most often results in an incredibly embarrassing approach that scares the other person away most times.

The exception? Friends, in which I do mostly all the conversing whilst they spend their time mostly ignoring me otherwise...

6 or 7 for me. I will attempt to socialize with others often. Though, if someone else decides to initiate conversation with me and I am unprepared, I usually get scared off.

Where did you go? I've been to SIG and JHU-CTY and loved them. This year at SIG was one of the few times when I've really looked forward to socializing.

I'm just curious as to where you're going, as I love programs like JHU-CTY's three week courses, and I've heard of other ones like explo.

I can vary from sitting in a corner reading during recess (JHU CTY three years ago) to going to a dance and actually going through the motions (getting dressed up, jumping to the music almost half the time (SIG this year)

I'm aware that others are in the room, but I just feel nervous when talking to someone my age. That's why most of my social life consists of my mom, my sister, and my mom's friend.

I dont have too much trouble. A little eye contact issues here and there. Not 100% okay with hugging but I learned to deal with it.

I will answer questions, but will never willingly socialize, no. According to my Mum, I don't respond when people say "Hi" seeing me on the street or wherever. I say that by the time I think of a suitable reply, the person has already walked past me. This is actually not lying, when you think about it.

I never used to talk at all. Apparently, my parents were surprised when it seemed as if I had learned to talk overnight, because I seldom talked during my first decade or so of life.

Now I make eye contact, but I hate people touching me, especially hugs.

I put in a 3. But it'd depend on the situation :) around familiar people I can be fairly social.
