Does anyone under 16 daydream about going to the prom?

I'm only 14 and I daydream about going to the prom when I'm older. My dress will be a long turquoise dress that looks like it's from a Disney Princess movie and will wow everyone.

I was wanting to go to the prom when I was that age, too. It wasn't until I was a junior or senior in high school when I began to realize that it really wasn't a big deal, and that I wasn't willing to spend tons of money on such an occasion. Hence, I skipped the prom.

I had never gone to a single high school dance. School dances aren't my thing.

I was the only one who wasn't when I was a freshman, even when freshmen & sophmores were allowed to go to my school's prom unescorted (I go to a small, private Christian school). I just figured it'd be boring & it upset my self-diagnosed agoraphobia (fear of meltdowns in public places), so I promised myself I would never go to a Prom, and this year will be the final year I have to keep that promise.

I didn't go and haven't regretted it since. Of course it depends on what your opinion is about it, but I hate social events so the prom for me would have been the God of bad, or something like that

Also it's an American thing, we Brits just copied it.

Bleechhh!! ! I detest the idea of prom. I doubt if I went I wouldn't get somebody hot enought to go with me. Bleechh! I also hate wearing poofy, fancy things.

I went to the year 10 formal, and it was okay, but nothing special.
I'd rather play video games, personally.

When I was younger, loud noises scared me to death, so I never dreamt of going to a place where I expected loud music would be playing and everyone would be screaming over it.
I did go to the military ball for ROTC once. I have to admit; I liked getting all dressed up in my long, golden dress and my mom making my hair all pretty and having an excuse to wear pretty jewlery. I even got to dance with two guys. It was fun.
I really do want to go to the prom. I really, really do. I don't care about my severe social anxiety that I get around people. I'd like to do something normal for once.

No. I don't think it's important to us Kiwi's as it is to Americans. Anyway it seems stupid, needing a date for some dance, I don't like dancing anyway. Only thing that appeals (from what I've seen) is hanging by the punch bowl and drinking a lot. And eating any snacks available.

Not particularly, as I hated my old high school and got bullied for years there. My small group of friends were not enough of an incentive to pay for it; it was pretty damn expensive! I didn't go, simply because I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. Two of my closest friends followed suit and also did not go.

All three of us have moved to a new school this September. I will get another chance of going to prom in Summer 2012 and right now I think I will probably go. I really like my new school and have a lot of friends in my year. I think it would be a nice event to commemorate the end of full-time education.

Proms cost money? I mean sure I knew most people dress up but I'd just go in casual attire. Well if there's an entrance fee that's one more reason never to go.

Yeah, ours was about £30 entrance fee which gave you a meal too. Drinks were an extra expense. I would also have had to pay for a taxi home if I could not get a lift with one of my friends, as I would not have wanted to get the bus home alone at that time of night. I already had a dress that I wore to my 16th birthday party that would have been suitable for prom but I needed new shoes to go with that. The way I saw it, I would rather spend that money going to a gig or something with a couple of my friends, as I would actually enjoy that, unlike prom.

I know girls who payed hundreds of pounds for their prom dresses. And there is another prom in Summer 2012 that most of them will be attending, I presume...so what are they going to do? Spend another few hundred quid on a new dress and shoes and bag etc for that one?! It's crazy, to me, hah.

Never daydreamed about it. I think proms are boring and stupid.

I used to wish. It was supposed to be the thing, the time, when I'd know that after everything that had happened I was now leading a normal life, instead of the awful hell I was trapped in.

Not leading a normal life now. Also not nearly as miserable. I've come to realize there are more important things. And I'll never have a normal life, and that's okay. Abnormal doesn't mean bad.
