Would any of you guys be happy doing what NTs do every day? Some of those things they do are just pointless, if you ask me.

I'd be happy doing just what I'm doing right now - being myself :)
Can you name an example of something pointless that they do, out of curiosity?

The thing that I've learned over time is that NT's aren't all the same, bro. Don't make assumptions. Most of my friends are NT's

Absolutely not. I would be very miserable. I did that the first two years of college and it was abortive. I only have basic social skills in order to get work and avoid confrontation. Other than that, I'd rather be an aspie than act NT.

Hypocritical. Our interests and actions can be just as petty as their's if not much more petty(collecting paraphernalia related to a special interest, etc.). And remember, the term NT encompasses a large variety of people.

I act NT when I'm at work. I think.

But I've found the more harder I try to put on an NT front, the more my AS comes up onto the surface without me knowing. NTs can see false confidence, but I don't use false confidence any more. When I start a job, I'm going to be shy. I will be friendly and smile a lot, ect, but I am going to be shy. Trying to be really confident doesn't work. The more you act shy, the more you can hide your Autism and just come across as ''shy but friendly'', and people will like you more. That way you don't say the wrong thing, or come to a situation where you don't know what to say, which will make people judge you more. So trust me - it works. I've tried it on the last course I went on. The room was full of NTs aged between 18 and 24, and all I did was act shy but friendly, and I fitted in so well, whereas if I walked in there and started making up any conversation with everyone and not being myself, they would have picked up on it and thought I am ''just weird''.

It really does work. Pretending to be a shy NT is really easy, because your confidence builds as you get to know people without saying ''too much'', then before you know it you've adapted well with other people. OK, this might work for all Aspies but it does with me.

To those that assume I am grouping all the NT's together, being hypocritical, and/or those who are simply curious:

Oh, I knooooow I do pointless things. My bad for being general.. :( I know I could have been more specific in my original post, but I am referring to small talk, gossip, "contests" and elaborate social posturing that NT teenagers engage in. I really don't have problems with most adults. They're easier to interpret, and much more straightforward.

I've tried to act "normal" during my teen years, and all it did was made me miserable. :( I dressed in the latest clothes, listened to the latest music, etc. But I wasn't happy with the choices I was making. If I had known that it's OK to be different back then, I would be much happier today.

I've been trying to act NT for about a year now, and plan to do even more to fit in at my new high school. So far so good!
