Jealousy has been described as a blend of love, anger and fear. Love for a person, anger about the situation, and fear you might lose them. Envy is desiring another person's stuff or situation. I think they're very closely related and may even overlap sometimes, but I'm sure I'm not the final authority on this.

jelousy rel;ates to people and how you feel abouth them, their attitude, success (real or perceived) and achievemtent.

enviousness related to possessions or material possesions a person has.

the two are interchangable.
and only and english lit phd will pull you up on the interchangability rule.

In envy, someone else has something you want.

In jealousy, you have something you're afraid of losing.

So the jealous person is (rightly) afraid of the envious person, but the envious person isn't afraid of the jealous person unless the envious person has actually stolen what the jealous person was afraid to lose.

Othello was jealous. Iago was envious.

Envy is positive. Jealousy is negative.
