WHAT: what are all of the social groups, like goths and what not?
WHO: What dothey look like? Where do they hang out? Are they all right?
WHEN: When doesn't really fit in
WHERE: Where in the US can you find them?
WHY: Why do people have such a strange urge to group off?

Tribalism, pecking order, and courting/mating displays.

Monkey troupe behaviour.

It accounts for nearly everything. The details vary: the peacock's tail is not quite a black seven series BMW, but there is an impressive congruity of principle.

Essentially goths like darker stuff, preps like lighter stuff, jocks are jerks, and nerds are, well... I'm one of them.

It varies from person to person. The labels vary a lot anyway.

*scratches head* Dunno. Mostly I chat with various people from my classes; if anything, I tend to get to know Latin geeks. (We're actually a small force at my school, amazingly. I attribute it to my excellent Latin teacher.)

Why: probably because of a characteristic "intrinsic to the human nature" (of which aspies are therefore excluded) to belong to some sort of group.
There are probably survival causes for that: a group could defend you from predators and help you find food and provide you with shelter.
