I'm pretty sure all NT parents think that, my mom definitely has done it before. It's usually due to the parent being embarrassed rather than her actually not understanding how uncontrollable meltdowns are/can be.

It's immature but it's not easy to control.....you did the right thing by going to your room.

I kinda have meltdowns and throw stuff around but only stuff like my glasses and I just make movements with my arms just really bringing them up and then down again. I also sit by the radiator in the dark as well. I am afraid of breaking something and getting in trouble. I also share my room with my younger sister. She really makes me angry and sometimes I get really angry and I just can't get away from it. They are really hard to control for me.

Your mother probably has some weird idea that people will mysteriously find out her daughter is having a meltdown. She is embarrassed and paranoid. I would also suggest better underwear. I know how irritating it can make you feel.

You'll never really be "too old" for them. I'm 20, and while I've developed some means of postponing or mitigating the really dangerous elements of them ((tw-self-harm(I don't hit or otherwise injure myself anymore) they still come up.

Parents, especially NT parents, don't get that meltdowns are often just flat out unavoidable. As much as we try, they just happen.

Frankly, I think you handled this one really well - you separated yourself from others, it doesn't sound like you caused anyone or yourself significant physical harm - so I don't see why your mother got so bent out of shape over it.

Keep swimming. :)

Nobody is too old for a meltdown.

It happened to me an awful lot until I went to this one private school. It helped me a lot. Now I rarely have them, but if I do, I take breaks.
