Hello everybody, this is my first day here.
Recently I did an asperger's test with about 200+ questions and the result was that I most likely had that syndrome.
I've been reading a little about it (pretty much wikipedia and WP's info) and I feel very related, but somehow I feel really sad to know I have this :(.

I've always tried to figure out what was wrong with me, why I felt so 'detached' from reality, why it was so hard to get along with other people, why I would to such unusual things...

I'm trying my best to be a better person, I'm in my second year in the university as an engineer, I recently began to work out, but this just seems like a big rock in my life I wasn't expecting.

Where should I go from here?

I am new to this site as well. It sounds like I'm in pretty much in the same boat as you. I'm going for a neuro exam in about a month. I go to engineering school as well, and I never really got along with any of my classmates, not to mention zero-skills in the women department.

Greetings and welcome to WP from another engineer, although I am now retired. Yes, this is a survivable condition, or at least I think that I have survived it, well sort of, I guess. :D

I've been in a couple serious relationships, but sadly I never really felt a strong connection between us, making them end eventually. Now I'm dating someone from the art field and surprisingly is way easier to get along with than common people. We'll see how it goes...

How was your experience? I'm a little worried when it comes to getting a job. I hope social interaction doesn't eat me alive.
I really want to get far with my life, do people eventually stop seeing you as a 'weirdo'...?

As far as I know, they never do. You just have surround yourself with the right kind of people and accept the fact that you will never be 100% normal. Not everyone will ostracize people for being a little bit different. Embrace your weirdness, ignore your detractors.

But when it comes to getting a job... fake being normal. Practice your social skills.

As far as getting a job and interaction at the workplace is concerned, you may be able to find some solice in the fact that there are alot of companies out there that just want you for your technical skills regardless of people skills. As far as working effectivley in groups, it sounds like this might be a source of anxiety for you. I've been there (and still are there). If you have chances to get internships, these are easy ways to practice your career. Also, you could argue that it's even easyer to make friends when they are getting paid to work with you...!

I know I'm just kind of barging in here, but I thought it would be nice to mention that being weird isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's no such thing as a normal person.

And welcome to Wrong Planet, by the way. :)

Hi Dazer. Welcome to WP. Pull up a chair and get a beverage of your choice and start talking. :)
