Asperger's: Type X
If there were categories of AS I would be Type X. I am shy at times, but also outspoken occasionally and usually at the wrong time.
i have many NT qualities but they didn't come naturally. My mother forced us to make eye contact starting when we were little. I don't like it, the connection that results from it is physically uncomfortable for me.
I know that other people have thoughts and emotions that differ from mine but I don't naturally take them into account when planning and whatnot.
I hang out with Christians most of the time they are some of the most tolerant people I have ever met. I do the wrong things sometimes but nobody except my (possibly) ADHD brother. Then once he points it out everybody tends to laugh. I laugh too but it does hurt. I tell my mom that it's because if I don't laugh I'll cry.
My AS is yet undiagnosed. My mom doesn't go for the 'I am who I am' thing, so even if I was diagnosed she'd probably have the same expectations as if I was NT. (Btw I am sure that I am somewhere very high on the spectrum but not NT.)
My social skills are decentish. I have friends who occasionally point out my aspie traits, but they (mostly) do it kindly.
I guess I call it Type X because I don't have severe symptoms but they do somewhat interfere with my life on occasion.
I have short intense interests on things examples:
css dropdown menus
chinchilla genetics involving the ebony and standard genes
my mother described me as blunt and upfront
Small noises irritate the heck out of me
There are things (movements) that if I don't do it stresses me out.
One of my friends tokd me I have no hand-eye coordination
I don't think like other people
I correct mistakes upon sight whether they are spelling, grammar, or math
I run my hands over textured substances
once I was really excited or nervous and so I started rocking my chair
I tend to invade people's personal space
I can remember numbers and quantitative data better than verbal data
If I'm not motivated I don't learn it easily
I have executive functioning issues I have started a bajillion projects and have finished none of them
One of my friend's sister confuses me because she uses sarcasm a LOT but doesn't change ANYTHING about her voice
There's more but I can't think of it right now
This "Type X," is there any reference or is it your own construction? I'm asking this because Temple Grandin uses a distinction in "Path A" and "Path B" autistic people in her book The Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships and i couldn't find any reference for this, either. Therefore, any serious information would be welcome.
