So, for the last six months I have had an idea that I may have AS, and when I looked into it further it seemed more and more likely. However, when I proposed the idea to my mother, she was insistent that I definitely did not have it, simply because she thinks that when I take things literally (sarcasm, requests etc.) it is just me joking, and I'm perfectly fine in social situations, despite the fact she knows that I don't pick up on non-verbal ques, and my socialization is kept to just two people, who I only ever see out of school once a month or so.

So basically, what I'm asking for is this: is there a way to convince her to take this seriously, or am I wasting my time? and if I am, is there possibly someone else I could talk to so I can look into getting diagnosed?

Typically, your first stop would be your GP. Given that you will still be at school, the school nurse might be another possible stop.

This may be useful, although it's aimed at parents. http://www.autism.org.uk/About-autism/A ... ldren.aspx

It is well worth comparing your traits with both the diagnostic criteria and known non-diagnostic characteristics, such as shutdowns and meltdowns and having this handy for the referring professional. The traits you mention would be relevant, but not sufficient for a diagnosis. I wrote my GP a 4-page letter before my appointment.

Thanks, and in case you hadn't guessed already I didn't put all the symptoms down
