I know it's something that most everyone does as they become adults, but the idea of going away to college fills me with so much anxiety and fear. I'm not sure if I'm ready to live on my own just yet. My friends disagree with me so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with me. Does anybody else feel this way?

The thought of going back to school terrifies me. I never did go to college even after high school. I never did well in school. Not even grade school.

I did get sent to go to Job Corps though... my first day there I had an anxiety attack so bad I almost passed out. I never fully adjusted and I never completed it.

If going away to college is not right for you: there are good community colleges and local colleges where you can commute and live at home or near home. There are also many accrediated online universities where you can earn a bachelors and masters degree. :D

100%, just the thought of living on my own gives me anxiety.

Define "adults", in this case.
Most people become adults in high school.

Also, I would love to live alone right now. I think about the future all the time. I have plans for the moment too. GRAND PLANS :D

I can't wait to go to college, but I am not ready for the responsibility.

Well to admit I am a little scared about going to college but mostly it's the people there who I am more scared of than anything.... :(

I'm going to stay at home for my first year of college. I don't think it will really do me any favors, but it's easier than trying to live on my own with roommates.

You know, I'm not all that scared about living on my own. But I'm terrified of being on my own, with no friends, no one who cares about me. That's what I'm most worried about.

I am extremely excited about the academics, and I believe that I will be able to function as something-close-to-an-adult on my own. I can cook, clean enough to not be a complete and utter burden to others, manage finances fairly responsibly, and communicate to others when I need to.

My great fear, however, is causing considerable discomfort to my roommate(s?).
I am one of those people who act "normal enough" in public and completely "aut out" at home. Inevitably, either my constant pacing and stimming will disturb my roommate(s?), or my self-injurious behaviour will alarm them. As this college is four hours away from home, commuting is not an option. My parents and family refuse to hear of me going to an online university.

We'll all make it through, though. It may not always be easy, and we may stumble a bit along the way, but we all have it within us to succeed. :)

I'm heading to college in August, and I have to stay in the dorms. I'm just glad that it's small, in-state, and only about an hour and a half from my parents' house. Not to mention that I'll also be close to one of my great-aunt and my cousin Mark's family. I just hope I can get a roommate that'll be nice to me and like me for me and understand my mental situation. Best part is that I'll only have to pay for my textbooks. Tuition and residency is covered between my FAFSA and the merit/residency scholarship I got from the school.

I want to go to college. I'm just afraid of living on my own because I lack basic living skills.. Also, I want a nice roommate that I get along with and have a lot in common with. There are a lot of things that scare me.

No, going to college seems interesting. You get to meet new people that are learning about subjects that are past high school level so its more of a challenge and you become a lot more apart of the world.
