I keep the fact that I am an aspie a secret because I am scared people will treat me differently. Do any of you do the same thing?

I'd like to get a diagnosis, so I'd tell people around me I have an ASD, so they will understand my difficulties. In theory.
In real life, I'd not tell to everybody, due to: 1) They don't know what is an ASD. 2) They'll discriminate. 3) They'll use that information to take advantage of me.

Few people know that I have AS IRL.

It's not because I am ashamed or because I fear I would be treated differently if I said I have it. It's mostly because I don't think it's necessary to tell them about it.

Generally, I don't trust people enough to tell them I'm autistic. My family know I am but only my sister still treats me the same.

When people know you're autistic, they speak louder to you. They act like you're so oblivious you don't know how to do anything. I could only bring my girlfriend with this kind of level of trust.

Only 2 of my friends know. I don't want to tell anyone else, because I don't want them to treat me differently.

I never told anyone in real life about it except for my fosterparents and social workers (who knew because they had to be involved in that dull diagnosis process) and my teachers (who had to give me some remedial help for Maths and non-English languages.) However, everyone in my school seemed to find out pretty quickly. How, I'm not so sure. I'm definitely not letting my Asperger's define who I am. It's just a label and I ain't no fan of labels (hence why I wear converse and not Nike)

Seriously? I am a neurotypical/Aspie hybrid, although I hide my NT side and openly embrace my Aspie side :D

I don't tell people unless it's either relevant or necessary, but having said that I'm sure a lot of people know anyway and I don't really mind that.

I don't tell anyone about my AS. Only my parents and other close family members know. I've thought about telling my friends before, but I''m afraid that they would treat me differently.

I haven't told most of my friends, because they already respect and love me for who I am - I only use discuss my diagnosis with others when it will make a point that I can't otherwise explain. Like why I'm a bit different to most other people... but as I say, my friends don't expect me to have to explain that to them :)
Mind you, I'm not particularly secretive about. I'd happily discuss my AS if someone were to ask.

My parents and I haven't told my younger brother and sister. I've told a few friends of mine, but only those I know will understand.

I just go tell online friends I have AS, and close friends. And as it is necessary, to my professors.
I don't know whether I'm trying too hard to be mature and let others help me, but I don't want to keep it a secret to people I love.

About half the people I know are aware of my Autism , it's pretty annoying as when I try to help them in class they just ask someone else as they assume I'm wrong :/.

It's a pain in the ass having another teacher JUST for You in the class , that also kinds of brings attention to me.

Intact I never knew I had Autism until I was about 11 , my Mum just never told me , she assumed I knew.
