Ok. I will admit. My recent obsession is with angels and especially with well... you guessed it, Lucifer. I want to ask a few questions.

A. Anyone else have this flipping obsession? I have christian relatives and it sucks when you cannot vent an obsession.

B. I sympathize with him. There, I said it. Does anyone else sympathize with Lucifer, or am I the only one?

C. I have a theory that there was more going on with Lucifer than just arrogance. According to the Bible and other sources, Lucifer would have been almost as smart as God, and therefore smart enough to get over his arrogance. Therefore arrogance sounds like an excuse to me. I think he may have been a psychopath. Does anyone else agree with me and have a different theory?

PS: Christians, please have mercy on me.... please?

Are you kidding bro? You will never be alone, why?
1: there are over 8 billion people on the earth
2: search the web there are a TON of angel and demon arts/ websites by those who are obsessed with them. If you try and seek it on the internet, you will find it on the internet. Anything goes.

3: We are not snowflakes.

And by the way my IRL Asperger friend is absolutely obsessed with angels and demons and he is a christian.

Don't worry bro If I was religious I would sympathize with Lucifer too, I mean lets face it Yahweh could get away with killing hundreds of thousands of people, destroy Civilizations, and killed all the fish! (the arc story) . LOL Lucifer is like a scrap goat and in the torah and bible I am sure he really never got the chance to commit hideous acts and get away with it on the scale that Yahweh could! In others words IF I believed in any of that I would feel sorry for my bro Lucifer to a certain degree.

Metaphysics and particularly angels are a special interest although I haven't been pursuing it as much lately but there are loads of books and websites on this topic and even fictional films too. I can say that in the Torah, HaSatan or Lucifer is not against G-d but a sort of tester/tempter as well as judge. He is an angel who fulfills a specific function but is not outside of G-d as in Christianity. I am not an adolescent so don't know how appropriate it is for me to be here but I saw the topic come up in my Twitter feed for WP and since it is part of one of my main special interests I wanted to comment and also so you would know that other people definitely have this interest.

If your interest is in the Biblical devil, I'm guessing there isn't a whole lot of factual information, as the Bible has relatively little to say on Satan,--though probably a lot of conjecture, as another poster alluded to. The most famous epic concerning the Biblical devil is Milton's "Paradise Lost".

I recently read the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey, who started the Church of Satan. You might find it interesting to know that most of the "faithful" in this church are atheists, who believe in neither God nor devils. One of the favorite jokes with this bunch is that a Satanist is an atheist with a Halloween costume.

Satanism is actually about the exaltation of self whereas Christianity is about the denial of self. This is why the high holy day for Satanists is one's own birthday.

You assume that arrogance is something you can get over with intelligence. This is incorrect. Intelligence does not protect you from character flaws, it just lets you rationalize them. And really, do you think Lucifer should have overthrown God? Do you think life would be better if he had?

I cannot ay one way or another. I am leaning towards no, but I do not know what Lucifer would have done with the planet.I do believe that he would a sociopath and that little good would come of that, but I would not blame him for wiping out humanity.

Please do not sympathize with the devil. He was cast out of heaven because he wanted to be God. No one can, or should want to be God. He is worse than any evil we can begin to imagine. Hell was created for Satan and his demons(fallen angels) it is a place of eternal torment and suffering beyond our comprehension.
http://www.godandscience.org/doctrine/hell.html
The pain, suffering, and horror that someone experiences when they go to hell will never end. Lucifer rules over this place and has no sympathy for the souls within it, please do not sympathize with someone so evil because he has no sympathy for us. He loathes humans and wants them to suffer in his domain, it is his nature. :(

If you want please check out some of these and see what you like :)

So, you sympathize with Lucifer because he wanted Gods love and felt that humanity diminished the love God gave the angels in favor of it. And he was willing to kill his brother angels and humanity to have this love. So I ask you this: if you do a thing for loves sake, does that make it not evil, but merely sad? Could he have confused his love of God for the love of power, this making him truly evil?

What, and misreading your intentions and being willing to do whatever it takes to get what you want is evil? And yes, I do.

The "Misreading of intentions" part is debatable, but "Doing whatever it takes to get what you want" part...yeah, that IS evil, actually, when it includes killing your brother angels and defying the creator of everything, including you. Some things, like morality, are more important than what we want, even if its love.

I'm a Christian and I have sympathy for Lucifer. Doesn't Christ teach us that we must have forgiveness and have sympathy?

My theory: You know how Macbeth feared that Banquo would try to seize his throne, so he sentenced him to death? Well, maybe God feared that Lucifer would try to seize His throne so He banished him? That doesn't mean that Lucifer was bad: it just means that God didn't want to be stripped of His all-mighty power.

Zarith, I like your theory, and the pointing out of Christ's teaching of compassion. Thank you for posting.
OliveOilMom, I actually like that song, but I do not see how it relates to the discussion.

Lucifer didn't want humans to have free will. The God of Abraham said yes, have it. There was a fight. Lucifer lost. How bad do you think Hell really will be? The book was written by the guy who lost the fight.

And also, why didn't he get over that with Eve? SHE brought original sin on us. Not the snake! SHE did. At least his spin doctors said so. I think that he just made vagina's too small and he looked for a scapegoat to cover his ass about the pain during childbirth.

Thanks and no problem.
I think that OliveOilMom (is that a Popeye referene, by the way?) posted that song because the thread is asking about whether or not people have sympathy for Lucifer/the Devil. The song is called "Sympathy for the Devil." Simples.
OliveOilMom, you raise a good point about Eve. It seems a bit harsh that God made her at all when He, being the all-knowing, knew that she'd tempt Adam into biting that apple. What kind of person toys with His own child like that? (Whether you like it or not, Adam is God's child: He created him.)
