when im in my room at night i feel like someone is breaking in and is going to kidnap or kill me or other people and at night if theres a bump or something outside i think its someone knocking on my window and looking in,

i occasionly wake up at 3am all sweaty and jump up and quickly hide because i think that they have got in the house or are getting in!

what should i do?

Though not probable, something bad happening while we sleep isn't out of the question. So, certain reasonable precautions should be taken. What makes me feel better is sleeping with a pistol close at hand, and my dog. My dog will let me know if anything is amiss. Another thing you might want to try is melatonin since it helps with sleep without having a drug-type effect.

Talk to a mental health professional. I have a feeling that this is a fairly common problem that they deal with all the time.

It's called nigh terrors. I get it, too. It is also called sleep paralysis if it happens when you're either trying to wake up or go to sleep. It's that moment when you are asleep but you feel like you're wide awake and your body just doesn't move no matter how hard you try to get it to.

I take Risperdal 2mg every day. It seems to help.

As a kid I had relatively severe sleep paralysis. I don't get night terrors very often, and they usually don't concern my immediate circumstances but I agree 100% about melatonin. Quite a number of herbs have long histories as non-narcotic sleep aids as well; I prefer them in teas but there are thousands of methods.

I can relate! The same happens to me, expecially during summer.
