so yeah whenever people say hi in public i just assume theyre talking to somebody behind me, and if there arent anyone around i think maybe they were using handsfree, or i just imagined it, and if im completely sure, but i dont know the person i dont say hi back! but yesterday this guy said hi and today he asked why i didnt say hi back and i told him this and he said i should always say hi back, just in case someone thinks im just a b***h, but is this true?

(hes a really nice guy btw, he doesnt mean any harm, just trying to help)

Maybe you have prosopagnosia? The inability to recognize/remember some faces. I got it too.
Don't worry about people who call you b***h because of that. Just answer when you are sure the "Hi" was for you and don't bother answering if you are not. And if they blame you about that just tell them you didn't recognize them because you got problem remembering faces. They will deal with it.

I am the same way. I get called rude for not responding back. I don't talk to people a lot so I don't really expect someone to say "Hi" especially from a stranger. I feel weird if I respond back to the person and the "Hi" wasn't for me. Especially when people wave at me and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wave back or if it's for someone else...
