Having too many sensory neuroreceptors, leading to an overload of the brain's ability to process sensory stimuli (including social interactions and nonverbal cues), leads to a natural state of constant low level anxiety.
Then add to that, as Kiriae noted, the psychological and emotional stressors of
knowing that one is socially inadequate and likely to misread, misinterpret and inadvertently misbehave socially without knowing it, it would be virtually impossible NOT to experience anxiety associated with social interaction.
It would be extremely rare for anyone with AS to be completely free of social anxiety, unless they were so dimwitted that they never realized how inept they appear to others in social situations.
