I'm going through a mad time when my special interest is changing almost daily because I don't really know why. Anyway has anyone ever re-gained an old special interest today I've been madly hyped up about an interest I had back when I was eight- which is difficult because I'm really too old for it now! How do you cope with that?

Just as an update and as a beg for help lol. I am pretty sure I've gone back to my adoration of the Narnia series like when I was little but I really don't know how to use this since I'm not eight now! It's no longer 2005! Argh! I think my Mums began to tell I'm changing but I don't know where I can go with this really. I hate when this happens. It would be really supportive if I knew what others thought about this, have you had an interest you were too old for? Or had one come back after several years?

You like what you like. It's healthy to have interests, and it's okay for them to change time after time.

I would say that if you have a special interest you would never completely loose it.
You would just change the amount of focus that you use for all of your interests.

I haven't been really totally obsessed with any of my interests, so I can't probably give you any advice how to cope with a changing special interest.
For me they are just there but not too important, either.

What makes you feel bad to use time for something else?

Or is it that you don't feel anymore motivated to pursue your special interest?
That I know. That one can come when you are down. And that can be a bit scary.

It's the awful come down, I really can't cope with not knowing what to pursue and what to do with my life. I feel totally one hundred percent pointless, I have nothing to do, nothing to think and no want to do anything when it ends and because they are so short my thoughts are only just about how long it will last when it starts. I feel so yuck when I feel it fade and I think this is fading once more and you know what I feel like I could burst into tears. I was crying the other night then watched the film and picked up. I'm so scared of losing anything else, I really thought this one would stay- its been only a week and I feel like I'm losing it, there was nothing to learn. I just want this to stop!! I want to feel secure again!

My special interests change all the time, I usually don't get new ones very often, but I come back to old ones a lot, but then lose interest in favor of another one. Ones I come back to most often are: Pokemon, Zelda, Yu-Gi-Oh, Avatar the last airbender, and starwars. I have gone through periods of rapid change in interests like you have, I found a nice way to cope was to do something not related to them but where you can still incorporate them, like lego's, I play with them, build something from my interest (a tie fighter for example) and eventually I just settle on one.

It is common. Like now I'm in a period where I'm liking everything I've liked in my life which is weird because I like stupid stuff like icarly and victorious and I like geeky stuff like Star Wars and Harry potter... and a bunch of other stuff that has nothing to do with that

Yes. Either embrace it or change it. I've embraced it.

I've not had a special interest come back in a while. Right now it's fandoms and fanfiction. Sometimes it's been paranormal, medical diseases, body parts/weight, or certain types of objects like toilets or hairbrushes.
