im a bit new with finding out whether or not im on the spectrum, but i want to know if anyone else does this.
i cant physically go anywhere without a very specific item (specifically a lego minifigure), if i go somewhere without it i feel very empty and unable to cope with anything that comes my way. i have it with my every day at school and sometimes kids look at me funny for holding it for good luck during tests. i can also hold the minifigure for a while to calm any panic attacks.
my mom thinks im just weird, what do you think?

Besides feeling objects have feelings, I don't have special attachments to particular objects, except for my notebooks (29 full of facts and tables and inventions) but I don't cary them around. Plus I would be scared of losing or damaging them.
but I am sure many people have comfort objects they cary around. Specially autistics, I read may get obsessed with stationary items, blankets etc and may have a hard time being separated from them.
ah, and welcome! :)
based on your post, do you think you are on the spectrum?

In my view at least this a normal aspie trait , I also can be quite attached to objects, currently im attached very much to ring which I wear everywhere as it is a ring that me and my Imagnary partner kinda represent our partnership though but thats a complex story so dw your not alone :)

Well, it isn't something most people do once they're out of pre-school, but it doesn't harm anybody, and it makes you feel better. The only problem I see, is what happens to you if something were to happen to the lego?

If the prospect of losing it, or harm coming to it fills you with anxiety, that could be worth talking to a therapist about. Together, you could figure out what that lego really means to you, why you feel more secure with it, and then how to move past that.

I don't see a problem.
The first thing that comes to mind is Linus' security blanket.
How big is the piece? Most of them are pretty small and easy to hide in a pocket.
Why do others even know that you have it?

Did you know that you share George Harrison's birthday?

I think it is normal for someone on the autism spectrum to be attached to a particular object/thing. When I was younger, I always carried around a stuffed animal. I always had to have a specific one, and if I couldn't find it I threw a temper tantrum. I eventually learned to cope without it. I have a friend who is autistic and carries a stuffed dog around everywhere he goes. He is 15 years old, so he gets a lot of stares from people when in public....

it's completely fine as long as the object isn't dangerous or seen as a threat by others. if it makes you comfortable, do whatever you want.

as for me, i can't leave home without my blue and grey chainlink bracelet, that rolls up to halfway up my forearm. i just feel...incomplete without it.
also everyday at school, and sometimes in car/bus rides i bring my sketchbook along with a couple pencils/pens. most of the time i don't even draw or write in it, or even look in it. i just like carrying it around.

It is normal; some people just have an item they like.

For me it's my hats.

I have many hats and have to have one in public to feel comfortable.

Also my music player and headphones lately.

For me "an item I carry everywhere" is the red color(I collect red and red-black stuff). I must have some red clothing on me or I feel empty and nearly physically sick.

My mobile phone seem to be such object too. I can't go anywhere with an empty pocket - my mobile phone has to be there. I make/receive phone calls about once a few months and surf the net using my mobile phone a few times a month but still - if my mobile phone is not on me I feel insecure. But I guess it is a practical thing - don't use the mobile phone often but I never know when I am going to need it so I want to have the possibility all the time.
Plus - my mobile phone got red-black zipper leash that is my favorite stim toy. xD

I do this. I can't go anywhere without my slinky. Two days ago, we were going to the movies and we were almost late because I made everyone turn around because I forgot my slinky. I feel sick and empty without it and am even playing with it as I type.

I actually don't have any objects that I need to carry around. But, I probably did at one time.
