did she? :chin:

smart in which ways? in elementary school the teachers would say i was "so smart" but i never felt any more capable than the others. likely they meant 'book smarts', won't exactly get you so far when working in groups and can't communicate your ideas effectively with the others..

My mom has been saying that all my life, and I'm 45!

Everyone told me I was smart as a kid and that they thought I'd be done with college by like 13. I wish they had never said that because now I know my IQ is really low and they were just lying to me. I ended up hitting the academic wall in HS.

i was about to ask you what you meant by "hitting the wall", when figured it out, i think. i've been feeling a bit demotivated here in my senior year, my assignments seeming more like busy work. though i predict i'm totally wrong and it's too early to tell what applications they'll have. but it's what i've been feeling.

nobody really here cares about my iq and i don't even know mine (i think 113?) but when they tell me i'm smart i just thank them but not really take it to heart. for the most part i'll decide if i'm smart or not....

i predict i'll be done by college by 24/25. maybe a bit more if debt payment counts.

also ^^ can i ask, what's your avatar?

People have always said that I'm smart, but I lack "common sense."

My wife still says that to me.

@Kiprobalhato and Girlwithaspergers:

I know that feeling, too.

It seems we are 'smart' for our age, but then high school is a slippery slope.

'Peak too soon' they call it.

Me?

I excelled as a kid, getting always A's and B's.

I was the dux (highest achiever) of 7th grade.

Then in high school I went down and now I average C's or C-'s on almost everything...B-'s if I'm lucky.

My senior year especially has been tough so far. I'm not alone. My aspie friend is actually very, very close to failing the 12th grade. He even had to attend an interview and everything...He got an E+ on an English assignment, and told me he even cried when he saw it.

Does anyone else agree so many aspies seem to peak as a kid and then become fully average in high school or even fail???

What you stated happens....but it's not inevitable.

I think your Cs are the result of something which has nothing to do with brains. Maybe it's motivation?

You might not be interested in what's being taught.....You might not extend yourself, as a result, past the point of merely passing. What do your teachers say?

Maybe, like many high school students, you care more about chicks than books.

I'm sorry, but I laughed at that. XD. Yes, I do focus a lot on the opposite sex.

But yes I agree it probably has more to do with motivation. My motivation for school has decreased as the years have gone by.

Most high schoolers seem to have low motivation and only care about C's. You could say I've just caught up. But also the work itself gets harder every year.

It's not the girls. I try just as hard (or, rather, just as little) whether I think about them or not.

Well, to other aspies who went down a slippery slope in high school: What were YOUR reasons? Also motivation? Or something else?

How are the classes where you are? Are there lots of kids disrupting the class?

I know, when I went to high school, that I either 1. Could be part of the disrupting group; or 2. Amused by the disrupting group--thus, lowering my motivation as to that class.

Teachers who cannot control the class frequently have students who do not do well. They perceive the teachers as not caring about whether or not the class learns the material. This leads to apathy.

What I'm saying: it's not always the STUDENTS' fault. It could be the teacher as well. And it could be the material presented--I have found that many students don't find the general curriculum "relevant."

I think mayhem in the classroom, combined with apathetic teachers, is behind a considerable amount of low grades in high school.

In essence, it might not be the Asperger's, per se, which underlies the "slippery slope."

Have you any plans for what you want to do in the future?
