Does anyone have any trouble telling so-called "little white lies", or know how to recognize them?

I can tell little white lies easily, but its hard for me to recognize them when other people tell them.

I can tell big, non-complimentary lies without any trouble whatsoever, but for whatever reason I'm really bad at the little white ones. I assume it's because I'm just not a compliment type of person, and if I don't mean it, it shows.
As for recognizing them...it depends on who's lying to me. I can tell with my family and some of my old friends, but not with a stranger.

I don't really lie. I can't manipulate my tone of voice very well so it isn't very convincing even if I try.
