Talk at School
I was diagnosed at 14 with quite mild Aspergers. As a result, I have become a proficient social mimicker. I constantly hear jokes about autism and being autistic; however, I don't feel I am qualified to be a spokesperson nor one that should share a diagnosis. I fear those at school will ostracize me, and I have found friends here (they know; the closer ones do). Some of the jokes are pretty awful and misguided, though I may simply be projecting because of my own struggles. Am I being too sensitive? I want to speak up but won't risk oversharing or overreaction. My friends say it as well when I'm not around (the more distant ones). Should I do anything?
I'm not too sensitive when it comes to jokes. However, if something about it really bothers me, I just leave myself out of the conversation. I also suggest if it gets too bad, tell an adult you trust, or talk to one of your closest friends.
I also don't like standing up to someone directly, so I would just go for an alternative solution.
