Seung-Hui Cho is speculated to have had Asperger's. For anyone who does not know, he was the person who comitted the mass murder at Virginia Tech and then killed himself. Anyone else find this disquieting?

Well, he's just one guy. How many neurotypicals have done this too? If you give me the statistics on the proportion of school shooters/serial killers etc. who were aspies and the proportion of the general population who are aspies I'll tell you if I'm concerned.

I suspect there will be no significant correlation between asperger's and violent behaviour.

But how can that be? People with Asperger's aren't violent, not psychotic, and we are definantely NOT going out and shooting people. This guy probably just had a lot of Psychological Problems.

Sorry, posting again, but I just read that the guy had an anxiety disorder called selective mutism, as well as depression.

Does it really matter what he was labelled as? Bill Gates has Asperger's, and he donates more to charity than anyone else. It has also been speculated that Ghandi might have been an aspie.

some have done great things others...not so great.
it is a burden and a curse.
how we deal with it is up to use.....no one else.

Only 6 Jews? I think you might to rectify something there. :P

I'm not really bothered by the fact that he *might* have been an aspie. I have a feeling though that there could be more demonisation of AS if he was. Oh well.

Doesn't surprise me in the least, some so called aspies are fascinated by guns and murder, and are quite capable of the act.

it interesting the nazi connection and AS.
Hitler may have had AS. i havent read anything to suggest he did.
But Hans Asperger ( who "discovered and lent his name to Aspergers syndrome) was an Austrian Psychologist who discovered his work around the time of the nazi regieme. Anything german, neo german or NAZI of this era was, understandably approached with caution with the NAZI eugenics approach to race ( the superior race of nazi's the demonisation, and erradication of all inferior races), Aspergers work was very quickly forgotten about, as after the war, any research that suggested people are different due to ANYTHING was touted as neo-nazi post war propoganda. Remember that Europe was just recovering from the erradication of anyone which didnt fit a nazi ideal of genetic perfection.
So it was in the early 90's it was a british Psychiatrist ( Lorna Wing) who translated Aspergers work nto englsh and re-discovered Aspergers Syndrome, if it wasnt for this....work done by these two people we wouldnt have a name or an understanding of ourselves and an ability to adapt to it.

Different people speculated a lot of things about the guy and I never heard the word "asperger's" used although I had seen a news article that mentioned autism in passing (as just one possibility). I really don't think news organizations should be doing so much speculation.

well considering aspies get picked on (but then again, everyone gets picked on) and dont really know how to react sometimes (yay for social 'wonkiness') eventually theres gonna be someone who snaps :/ granted, everyone can just snap, regardless of mental state, but its typically easier to just snap like that when you're not quite sure how to react to something. i can honestly say, ive felt like killing a few people ive been in the same schools with.. but havent we all? im not saying i would shoot up a school like that... i would just go after the people who did bad things to me, i wouldnt kill anyone who had nothing to do with me like that one guy did :/
