Who here has motivation issues with homework?

I missed my first assignment in 5th grade (up until then I was a perfectionist teacher's pet, sadly the peak of my love of school) and have been going downhill ever since. :?

I've failed 9th grade English altogether, and have failed a half semester in English every year since. :(

Any tips on how to motivate?

I have issues. Some very big issues.

No idea on motivation though. I'm still trying to figure that out myself. I usually don't turn in late assignments, but thats because the stress of having to do the whole thing the night before its due keeps me awake enough to finish the whole thing the night (and morning) before it's due. OTOH, having a 10 page paper due the next morning seems to work as a strong motivator for me. ;)

I used to, but I seem to have turned into an overachieving lunatic who turns a lot of stuff in not only on time, but early. Additionally, when i write papers, I have troubel keeping things SHORT enough a lot of the time.

Hate me yet?

I generally have problems starting.

I'd always procrastinate as much as possible.

It wasn't until 10th grade that I'd procrastinate enough to turn things in late and/or of lower quality than they should be.

And not until 11th that it became a habit.

I have this same issue.

Same. I waffle on, but do I actually answer the question set? Not in most cases.
I'm also the queen of procrastination. Really, what's the point of this 'issue' anyway!

I do! I think the best advice I ever heard was from...

So just find a way to enjoy what you're doing. Figure out what this assignment is really giving you, what you can get out of it. If you explore the self beneficial aspects of homework enough, it makes it a whole lot easier to do, and seems much less pointless.

If you can't do anything to benefit yourself, you uh... have my problem currently. I should be working on a looovely comparison between the Puritans and Wicca, but um...
that was what I said last Thursday too. And last Friday, and last Saturday...

Hate is such a strong word, I resent you. :|

Oh yes, I do that all the time, you don't even need to write anything, just make a unique mark and it'll remind you of whatever you need to do.

Depends which classes. I slack off in social studies/history and still get an A, and same thing with English. I actually have to work in chemistry, but that's because AP chem is notorious for being the hardest class at my school...

Heh, same with me, except that almost all the science courses are notorious.
Only got to slack off in Geology (Earth Science "A" which I had third tri 9th grade), and to some extent Biology, though I got a B because I'd get Bs on the projects and Cs on the labs.
I'm not the first straight Honors student to get a C (well, I hope not, but that was my midterm) in Enviro, my guidance counselor has had kids come to her in tears over that.

The solution is simple: you simply don't care.

I procrastinate, I slack off, and I make A's and I'm hardly one of the smarter kids at school.

Just pay attention in class and don't stress out.

Researchers lately have discovered that procrastination is actually the key to success. About 3/4 of the population work better under pressure with little time and besides, you're generally getting other things done while you're procrastinating.

My entire enviro class finished their papers last night/this morning.
One girl stayed up all night, another did the exact thing I did (stayed up late, got up at five to finish).
Whole class was talking about it before the teacher came in.
Nobody had done the six-page, trimester long paper ahead of time, not even a super-organized workaholic friend(sort of) of mine.

But yes, I've dicovered that no matter how long I put something off, if I have at least 20 mins for a worksheet or 90 for a paper I can always get it done.
