I'm supposed to but don't. My mother is supposed to be paying me 10 dollars a week for doing my chores but she doesn't and when she owes me money she never pays me and forgets about it. Any mentioning of her oweing me money makes her mad.

after I pay the rent, the utilities, car insurance, the internet cable, health insurance, life insurance and groceries, gas for the car, including laundry and shower sundries for running the house, sometimes I have a few buck left over . . .that I put away for savings so if my cat needs the vet, or the car breaks down, or my hard drive crashes . . .

well, maybe my pay check IS my allowance! but I don't have much fun with it.

I haven't gotten my allowence in 30 years. If I had invested that money in mutual funds...

What exactly is meant by allowance?

I have hardly ever got any money from my parents, and I don't have a job, but luckily, now I'm in college, I do get £30 every week from the LSC (direct.gov.uk/ema for those that havn't heard about EMA).

When I was younger I got an allowance. Mine was $10 a week as well, but I got it monthly. My parents gave my sister the same amount, even though she is younger than me. We got allowances mainly so we didn't bug them for money, which I never did. Also, my parents had us save a portion of it and divide the rest into categories. The "free" money we had ended up at $3.50 a week. I always saved my allowance for months and then blew it all on something ridiculous, like a hamster cage (my sister bought the hamster, she didn't have as much saved). Sometimes I'd just put like fifty dollars into my savings account from my hoarded up "free" money. Now I have a job, and that gets me a lot more than $10 a week. And I always get paid.

A weekly, bi weekly, or monthly payment a country's government makes out to help people who are unable to work due to disability live.

We have it here in the uk too. Dsiability benefits, incapacity benefits etc.
If you are diagnosed AS or other illness and it is decided you are not fit to work, this is what you are entitled to.

I get a disability allowance.

Before I got that I used to get $20 a week from mother if I needed to buy things like lunch at college, prescriptions etc.

I used to get a small weekly one, but for some reason my parents have forgotten about it.

They said they'd stop giving me one once I was legally old enough to get a job (16), yet about two years ago they just forgot about it and even now I'm still too young.

I keep reminding them about it and they shrug me off.

EDIT: Haha, my mom just found two dollars on her bed and gave them to me, saying that it's an alien sign telling her to give me my allowance again XD

I never got an allowance and still don't, not from my family or the government. I did chores, which I still do when I'm at home, but it wasn't paid work I was part of the household and lived from it so I contributed to it. I never resented not having one. I wouldn't want any kind of allowence from the government because I feel I should earn what I have and don't need one.

I got an allowance occasionally, $20 a month for washing the dishes... I was also randomly given a $20 bill by my father or mother once in a while.
