Pretty random, I've just heard some ridiculous stereotyping about it.

Most ridiculous: A girl in my class who I call the Chief Imbecile thought that Aspie can only read upside down-I'm not joking!

My dad thinks it is complete BS... then he looked it up on the internet and said that he probably had it too.
All of my "friends" either don't believe me or don't care.

.........Although, when I was talking about Autism awareness month to this guy who didn't know anything about aspergers & was infering from his surroundings as much as you can, he was like, "Well i know you have some kind of medical disorder." Wah?

Around my online friends:
-Sometimes they will poke fun at me, "Ha, ha, you have ASS burgers."
-Often when they are just "messing around" I take offense because I can't tell if they are really making fun of me or not and I take offense, "Jeez, calm down, that wasn't meant to be offense. You're doing that Autism thing again."
-"What's Autism?"
-"I thought Autism is where you start running around in circles screaming." (lol)

My class-mates during unit on Autism:
-"HAHAHA ASS BURGERS HAHAHA"
-Rainman imitations
-"ASS BURGERS!"
" HEHEHE ASS.... BURGERS!!111oneoneeleventyseventy"

Yeah, many people are very misinformed on Autism and Aspergers...

Most people I know consider it something serious related to mental patients etc.
A good reason not to take my medical file to work :D

I never told anyone about having aspergers, but I have in a couple of cases talked about it in general, and it seems many of my classmates (that is, the one half of my class that I find it worth talking to) are rather knowledgeable, in the sense that they are fully aware that they know nothing at all. Meaning they don't do any stereotyping.

The reason I don't tell anyone about it is that I don't think it should make any difference. I should be fully allowed to be me, whatever I am. If I'm weird, that wouldn't change, and aspergers would just be excusing for my behaviour. And since there is nothing wrong with it as far as I’m concerned, I don’t really need an excuse.

I told one of my friends and then she immediately blurted, "You're not Autistic! You're very smart!"
I asked her if she even knew what it was, and she said she didn't know.
So I tried to explain to her about "High-functioning autism" and "Asperger's Syndrome" but she wouldn't listen. She just kept saying, "But you're not ret*d and you're a nice person!"
So I just stopped trying to explain to her, and I had to walk away because I was frustrated that she wouldn't listen to me.

I guess she assumes that all autistic people are ret*d and crazy.
Ignorance.

Thats the same with me. They always say i dont have it and they arent willing to talk about it.
No matter how important an issue it is for me. And how hard was for me to tell it.
I can feel realy betrayed then.

I just tell people I have ADHD or learning disabilities if it comes to that point, which it rarely does. They always believe me... even though I don't have ADHD.

I emailed some friends last year that I have AS and described it as mild autism. One guy emailed back saying at least it's mild, two people asked for more information and the rest didn't reply.
