And no. Here in Canada you can start work at 15 at SOME jobs but apparently most are 16.
there are a lot of places here in ontario that will hire at 14. the reason for some hiring only at 16 is due to the wsib coverage...if you're under 16, the company is not covered by wsib for insurance should any injury to you occur (i know this is for ontario, not sure for the other provinces/territories). but some companies will still hire at 14 knowing this. i worked for shoppers drug mart for 18 years, and i constantly hired at the age of 14...and we never had any kinds of problems with that. i only recently found out with starting at a new company whose policy is not to hire younger than 16 what the reason is.
but good luck with trying to find something...have you checked out places like your local library, animal shelter or even with assisting with sports related activities (like time-keeper/referee/umpire etc)? i know a lot of kids i hired had that kind of experience as well as some of their first jobs....
