I have obtained the "prestige" of the vale in a small school, however, I have contracted the great virus. I seek college and life and I don't want people telling me what to do anymore and I want a perfect senior prank and I don't mind getting a B in physics this semester even though I have straight As.

Not to mention I have been off my Straterra for 3 weeks.
Time to live a little.

I'm in the same boat, except I'm at a big school and wasn't on Straterra. Seriously, high school is over for me. I still have to come for another month or so, but I will only be present physically and not mentally.

Orwell, is your signature used ironically? I've been wondering about that for some time.

I thought you were in college.

As far as that senior prank, there are these speakers around the church-school campus reminiscent of the noisy propaganda in 1984 only with Christian elevatorish-music. I'm thinking of swapping discs with My Chemical Romance or something.

I'm not sure what you mean. Those were the three main slogans of the Party in 1984, which, as you can probably guess from my name, ranks among my favorite books. My location is listed as "Room 101," another 1984 allusion, and I plan to make my custom rank "Outer Party Member" once I reach 1000 posts. But is it used ironically? Well, I don't believe that war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength. But there are people who do believe that, and argue for it. Actually, my AP Government book advances the notion of "ignorance is strength" in claiming that an intelligent, informed electorate is unnecessary.

Matrix: I am a high school senior, I will be in college next fall.

Hmm. I would think that an intelligent, informed electorate is crucial to the democratic process. But are you referring to the democratic process or Engsoc?

1984 was a cautionary fairy tale. It was the only way Orwell could warn people about socialism without being killed for it. George Orwell, as I'm sure you know, was the pseudonym of Eric Blair. He called his books fairy tales to difuse the danger of government reprisals. Scary stuff. 8O

That actually was my AP Government textbook talking about America's electoral system, which, according to the book, does not need informed voters to function properly.

Yes, I knew Orwell=Blair. I wasn't aware that he really feared government reprisals, at least in his home country of Great Britain. Of course, he was distrustful of government in general, and had some pretty bad experiences with Stalinists during the Spanish Civil War.

Can you dig up the bio on the dentist who invented the electric chair? How would a dentist have any experience with electricity, engineering, prisons, and other non-dentistry fields?

And about the ostrich? You'd think a creature's eye would be smaller than its brain, if only marginally. How can the brain process visual information with peripherals larger than the central processor?

Not only are ostriches stupid, their appearance reflects this cognitive defenciency. They look like dumb beasts as well.
