Yeah, I used to talk on messanger a lot more then I stoped after awhile. You can always put yourself as invisible and talk to who you want to.

I hate those conversations OO

Mine tend to go:

Hi
Hi
How are you?
Ok, you?
Yeah, ok

....silence.

With the friends I talk to frequently, 9 times out of 10, I won't even say hi. I'll just launch into full-conversation, asking them about this and did they read that and what not. With everyone else (ie: people I rarely talk to), I'll answer their "Hi, how're ya" routine a few times. Then I just "pretend not to notice" it.

two ways around it that i use

only start conversations when you have something to say (half the people on my list dont say hi they just launch into "are you going to X" or some such)

volunteer a reason for how you are, "im good i just got the new X album/game" "bored ive been doing that stupid X assignment all day" depending on what the other person will be interested in

i dont go on messenger much anymore but they always worked for me

That drives me crazy, I'm terrible at understanding and speaking it. I used to think that :b meant that they're smoking a pipe.

I get them a lot.

As soon as I sign in on MSN, I get like 8 people saying hi.
And it takes up a good amount of CPU which makes my laptop slow down for a few minutes.
Until I'm finished the 2 minute conversation.

I only talk to someone when I actually have something to talk about. If you just want to say hi to someone, the conversation is going to have little meaning... I find though, that if you're really close to someone and that person is not just a buddy you talk to once a week, you'll go places and always have decient conversations. Half the people on my contact list I almost never talk to... because there is nothing to talk about...

My friends do that all the time. The conversation normally goes like this

Me: Hey
Friend 1: Hi
Friend 2: Hi
Friend 1: watz Up
Friend 2: nm U
Me: Nothing much. Just playing Wolfquest
Friend 2: kwl NM 4me
Friend 1: :D
Me: -waiting for someone to say something-
Friend 1: btw gotta synk da ipd
Friend 2: anykewl musik
Friend 1: da best
Me: -Leaves conversation

Then a few minutes later:
Friend 1: Whyda leaf?
Me: Well you guys weren't really talking about anything.
Friend 1: don't be sucha nigel
-a couple of minutes later-
Friend 1: b dat way

I hate Chat-speak :? Whenever I IM someone, they are always going 'btw, watz goin on wit u' and I'm just wondering whether there is something wrong with them. I've never understood chatspeak

Bleah, I really have no one to message, but on the subject of chat speak, I could go into a really long rant...but I won't. But I do admit, that the most annoying abbreviations in my humble opinion are OMG, and WTF. OMG for the fact that there are so many things it could translate too, and WTF, because I am not very fond of swear words. At all. (And both are picked up by spellcheck as invalid words.)

Well from my experience most people use those abbreviations, just type out your words fully, that's the only thing that majorly annoys me anyhow. :P

Chat speak can get annoying. I just want to have a deep conversation speaking plain english, or Mandarin Chinese(once I am able to write it and understand well enough) and the other person says something so short like, "whats up" or "omg" or something like that. :P

I had my first chat speak on facebook. :)
